A true poet, I love these videos he's posting. I loved The Smiths in the '80s. Other than sporadic bouts of excellence since, Morrissey has really missed having somebody like Johnny Marr alongside. Many people, I think, completely miss the humour in Morrissey's lyrics and have him/The Smiths down as a bunch of miseries making music to hang oneself to, which is completely unfair. I suspect many reach this conclusion before they've actually listened to much of their stuff, as it's often easier to accept the conventional wisdom. (I'm not suggesting this is you, Col, but recommend you put the pins down and insert cotton wool in your ears instead)
My feelings perfectly captured Ubes. I've always found Morrissey funny and always thought that he was deliberately tongue in cheek. But I have to say he's kept the act up for a very long time now. He's turned from a fey young man of indeterminate sex into a burly middle aged bloke, but he's still camping it up with the best, below a pure Edith Piaf performance. Great man, but I agree, Marr was the really special one.
Now I'm a big Smiths / Mozza fan but he gits on my pip a lot these days. The wife however loves him although she's been struggling through his biography / literacy w***fest since Christmas. Never bettered this as a solo artist(e) imo...
How about this one mate, suits our team perfectly with our Irish and English blend
Anyone who gets his Autobiography printed as a 'Penguin Classic' as soon as its published is ok in my book (pun intended)
Got to agree with that Wubs, always loved that tune even if I'm not a 16 year old spotty Herbert anymore.
Loved the Smiths, and have been lucky enough to see Morrissey a couple of times. Bit of a fruitcake though - he came and played the local town hall up here a few years ago, nice intimate gig, and he banned all the workers from eating meat for 48hours before he turned up in case the meat put him off his performance!!
I have seen him many times and for me is he a genius I haven't heard a single track that hasn't moved me or made me think in a different way He is by far too clever for this world and the music industry Respect to people who just want to be entertained by the medium of music but this human being is way above that Massive fan here and thanks for the clips
As Anthony said to Cleopatra As he opened a crate of ale : Oh, I say : Some girls are bigger than others Some girls are bigger than others Some girl's mothers are bigger than Other girl's mothers Genius IMO
