It is supposedly quite beatyful. Known for their flowers, wine and food. My parents were there a couple of years ago and liked it. Think it's nice for more "mature" (older) people, but as I've never been there my comment doesn't help you much I'm afraid Dave.

Lovely place if you like flowers and spectacular scenery. If you're looking for Ibiza style orgies you'll be disappointed...

I've been looking at Madeira for a cheeky week away. It has supposedly the perfect climate in the world. It has no beeches though. I've switched my focus to the neighbouring island of Porto Santo. Although very small and hardly anything going on, which suits me fine. It has a beautiful 9km of unspoilt beech. The Pestana Porto Santa Beech Resort & Spa is a superb hotel that's well worth a look. See more here ......

scary airport under a cliff with the runway jutting out into the sea as far as I remember. Nice gentle place, good Portuguese food and wine, lots of pictures of Ronaldo.

Good place to chill I think.

Nice, enjoy it mate. The beauty of quiet and peaceful places is that there is very little do but just stare at the beauty and relax. A very rare thing to be able to do in today's rat race.

Pilots need a minimum 3,000 live hours to be permitted to land in Funchal. It's the second most dangerous airport in europe after Gibraltar.
