I'm currently using a Sony Xperia Z1 and it's brilliant, it never crashes, it never breaks, the screen doesn't scuff, it calls people, the camera is excellent and the browser is Chrome, which is excellent. The battery lasts for two days before I have to charge it. Before that I had a Windows phone, which was also pretty good (but had a **** battery life)

I did a lot of photography and audio/visual stuff at uni and they used macs, which were great for that type of thing. Until you needed to right click something. Now, right click is like the 'get out clause' of all computing problems. No right click on the mac. Unless you held down a specific key on the keyboard and then clicked. User friendly my left bollock. The iPhone, which my brother has (along with a Macbook Air, an iPod touch and an iPad) is now in it's fourth incarnation in six months. The screen constantly breaks, whenever he shows me something on said screen the battery meter is never above 15% and it constantly gets hot. Oh and they charge a ridiculous excess to replace it PLUS an upfront fee when he upgraded. My upgrade was free, I got some free headphones, no upfront fee and I get free replacements. My phone does everything his does, literally, so what exactly is he paying for? A brand. It's an expensive, pointless alternative.

yes yes! i just upgraded my cpu & gfx card and I've watercooled my cpu, beats any mac out of the water, and with being able to add an ssd when i want, i can get ridiculously fast boot times without having to send it to apple for them to add an ssd if they even do that, doubt it

    windows 7 is the bomb

Yeah I'm currently using a laptop, which unfortunately gets very hot when I play games and I really don't think I have the capacity to cool it down sufficiently. At peak playing time it's burning at something like 89 degrees, which is obscene (and bad for my genitals apparently. And yet her indoors doesn't want children at the moment, so **** knows why she's on at me about it). But I'm hoping to purchase a desktop next year and I'll definetly be going Windows again.

If that is the case then your brother needs to complain to Apple. My wife has an iPhone (silly cow) which she got direct from Apple. After 17 months it developed a fault, went to the Apple store who replaced it free under the EU 2 year warranty.

Asked why she wanted an iPhone she said because her friends have them & it looks nice, she doesn't use apps though or browse the web, it's wasted on her, she only makes calls & sends texts

The right click missing is on the minimali-stic old wired mouse. There are mac mouses with right click buttons.

If press in control to right click affects you then I'm assuming you're not really the target market. My left hand never leaves the keyboard. Primarily because macs have good shortcuts for almost everything, especially Adobe creative suite.

Most of them do right click when you click on the right hand side, maybe your settings did not have secondary button selected.

I've had my iPhone 4 for over 3 years… I've dropped it a dozen times. No breaks, and all i have is a screen protector on both sides.
The upfront fee is not Apple's fault but the provider who is trying to cash in on some extra funds.
Every top of the range phone has pretty much the same features, with the exception of a couple innovations like Samsung air gesture which is just appalling. The point is some do it better than others. If you're just interested in calling, texting taking a few photos and browsing then yes you certainly don't need an iPhone.

I don't think anybody really NEEDS an iPhone, I just don't see why people rush out to buy the newest one every year; the features they offer are often found (albeit in a different format) on other phones, sometimes for up to half the price. People are just paying for the brand and it's ridiculous. I pay £30 a month for my contract and I get all my data, calls and texts chucked in. My brother pays upwards of £45, plus his insurance. So he's knocking on £50 a month. Which is obscene.

Is this like news or something?

The difference is you seem to be monitarising it all. You count the money and what you are physically getting. I mean I could argue well why didn't you save yourself £30 and go get yourself some chinese copy that has it all for £5/month.

Of course you're going to pay less for a car if all you want is an engine and four wheels. If you want a nice colour or smoother way to handle the road then it's gonna cost you.

This is slightly different than buying a tshirt with a small crocodile on it and spending 5 times more than a fruit of the loom one.
It's different in the sense that you're actually getting something different than other devices. You may see the iPhone 5 and HTC one as offering you the same thing because they both have a screen+data+camera etc… and only really care about those aspects but some people don't mind putting a price on appearance, ease of use, reliability, customer services and so on.
I genuinely find Apple products to just be simpler and better thought out. Making my life a lot easier, when it comes to connecting all the devices together uploading content, downloading songs etc… I find that Apple have made the entire package more appealing and fluid.

It's something you sign up to really. When you have the laptop, the phone, the iPod and iPad everything just makes a lot more sense and it's just easier.

You do know that Apple built their brand and reputation on reliability, specifically because viruses were and still are hard to come by on Apple computers, because virus creators didn't use to bother targeting the underdog Apple. It really isn't like they are just some stylised luxurious brand. They have and still do produce extremely reliable products.

My friend has the latest Galaxy and showed it to me to brag about the supposed amazing screen. Well I can't disagree it's a nice big screen and I'm sure the technology is better than apples but everything is ugly. The widgets are ugly, the colours are actually too bright making everything flashy rainbow, dealing with some of the settings is rather confusing… just to name a few problems.

I totally understand that if getting best value for money is your priority then I can see where you're coming from.

I remember the days when mobile phones started and people used to upgrade because you physically got given more. So it started off with colour screen and being able to have stereo ringtones and new games and downloading music and finally getting a camera and so on.

Nowadays every phone brand can pretty much give you the full package so the improvements seems less obvious. It relates to camera pixels, and speed of the processor or the storage space.

I don't however understand the people who get every single new iPhone as soon as it comes out. Those are just your average idiots trying to show off to friends etc… But don't let those people put you off a brand. These types are everywhere and have been for a while.
Just because it's a fashion statement for some doesn't mean the product itself is ****.

I get my free upgrade whenever a new iPhone gets released (always in September) so I just get it. Going to get the 6 I think.

Yeah but you've just said that my brother is paying more money to get a better phone, when in reality mine does everything his does, including all the apps, voice recognition (the camera/video on mine is actually way better), screen resolution, screen size, processing ability (again, way higher), but he's paying through the nose and I'm paying average price.

I didn't get an iPhone in the beginning because I had a phone and an iPod and couldn't justify blending the two together when I already had both. I have a Microsoft Surface tablet and it's epic. My brother has the iPad which again he paid loads for. I have a normal windows 7 laptop which cost me £700 at the time (which was because of all the upgrades and stuff) and my brother bought a macbook air. My laptop has way better specs than his, but his was £200 more. See the pattern?

My brother loves Apple stuff, but he doesn't half pay through the nose for it and when I weigh up what I have and what I paid for it, it just seems like I got the better deal. If I thought otherwise I'd have got a Mac.

The thing that really annoys me is when Apple do something that has been clearly been do before and certain people proclaim Apple at it's innovating best.

Also you'd think with the technology that goes into the Iphone they'd develop a charger that lasts. My sister has had four all from Apple in 12 months.

You don't get the point do you, Apple users don't care if the specs on your phone or laptop are better, because if we did we would buy them, we buy Apple because they all work with each other, no other brand does that with so many different products, it's quality gear that works, that's why I've had BMW's because they are great cars to drive, even tho my Insignia has got loads more spec on it, than my last car, it's not a BMW.

Why do Apple haters try to convince us that their phone is better than an iphone, I don't give a flying f, I like Apple so do more millions than any other phone user.

I bet your wife has a lovely figure but is as ugly as my arse and won't let you shag her, my wife has an apple shaped figure, but is extremely beautiful makes my tea every night and gives me a blow job before I go to work every day.

Do you see what I mean?

Windows phones, PC's and tablet all work with each.

You talking like Apple are some kind of elitist brand like Cartier. 12 year old chavs on Hessle Road have Ipads and Iphones FFS.

This is all reminiscent of the Betamax v VHS debate back in the days of video recorders (and I suppose Philips Video 2000 system) and I suspect the same thing will happen again when both systems were superseded by totally new technology and neither survived for very long in the scheme of things. Previous to that it was 78's, 45's LP's cassettes, even CD's and DVD's are now old technology as streaming seems to be the name of the game with both music and film. So mobiles may be around for a while yet, Android, Apple, and Windows (oh and Blackberry is still there I think) but like the rest will fade away in the not too distant future, then it starts all over again.

It seems to be a common problem going by IPhone forums.

I have HTC one over four years that I have as a spare downstairs and it works great. Even if the wire looks like it been ran over by a truck.

    ^^^This is exactly right.

I don't care if your phone has a slightly better screen, higher resolution camera or an SD card slot, if I wanted any of those I wouldn't own an iPhone.

Let's face it, the spec of a smart phone at the top end of the market is largely irrelevant to 99% of the consumers, they use it for calls/texts/web/music/videos and all the phones can do that to same standard.

So for the majority it comes down to looks, brand loyalty or price, simple as that.

I don't get the hate people have for Apple, they reinvented the smart phone, tablet and mp3 player to take them from niche markets to a global audience and as such paved the way for the non-Apple companies to develop products for a much larger market. If it wasn't for the success of the iPad for example Microsoft wouldn't have spent the time and money developing the surface tablet.

All Windows stuff synchs together, it's not really a new feature.

And that wife analogy is the worst I've seen for a while, partly because I'm not married, but partly because aesthetics is always a matter of opinion and wasn't what I was talking about. You don't get people with features like a phone. Your car analogy would've been great were it not for the fact that it underlines my point completely. As Casual says, if people on Hessle Rd can afford/nick stuff like Apple, it hardly sets it apart as a brand for the more refined. In these modern times, money is tight, so of course people are going to go for what gives them the best value for money.

However, people are idiots. People with money are even bigger idiots and Apple know this, it's how they've managed to package a brand together that offers less advanced tech for a lot more money simply because it looks shiny. It's genius, don't get me wrong, but if you can get a much better phone for half the price, how can you justify spending that much on something that just isn't as good?

Woah, it's not hate, like I said I have an iPod. My argument was justifying purchasing something that isn't as good when you could have something miles better for half the price and I'm sorry, but in times when the cost of living is at an all time high, how can the sensible option be not to go out get the best value for money? The simple fact is that most people won't have bothered researching it, they'll have seen other people with them and gone out and bought them because they look nice. Young people want them because they're friends have them. Why do their friends have them? Because all the cool people in the magazines and films have them. Thanks a lot mindless product placement.
