Sounds quite impressive... The streets of Hull will become rivers of fire as this year's Freedom Festival promises to be the most spectacular yet. A huge parade of 600 torchbearers is set to snake through the streets of Hull on Friday, September 6, marking the start of this year's Freedom Festival with a stunning procession of fire. As well as the procession, Freedom Festival will also welcome back internationally-renowned French street theatre group Transe Express... please log in to view this image The parade is set to start in Queen Victoria Square before winding its way past the William Wilberforce statue and heading down to the Fruit Market and Marina areas, which will again be the epicentre of this year's Freedom activities. To mark its 50th anniversary, a reading of Martin Luther King's famous "I have a dream" speech will be given beneath the Wilberforce statue, before more of a party atmosphere kicks in at the Pier Street stage, where BBC 6 Music DJ and Coronation Street star Craig Charles will be hosting a live version of his funk and soul show into the wee hours. The £400,000 budget event is under the leadership of a new Freedom board, which replaced last year's festival directors, Edinburgh-based company Unique, with newcomers Walk The Plank. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Freedom-Festival-plans-revealed/story-19395739-detail/story.html
It's events like this why I love living in the Old Town, right on my doorstep. Missed a lot in the past few years with working around the Country. But hope to see a lot more this year
I'm guessing this would be the perfect place to recruit for and start my conquest for world domination. And sell a few slaves.
Craig Charles' soul & funk gigs are very good. Well it was when i saw him at Welly. Well worth a watch.
Hull is the hidden gem and the people that don't know about it I feel sorry for. I am so very proud of MY! city with all its warts and problems. I been around the world and trust me Hull is unique in so many ways
A successful Freedom Festival will reinforce our City of Culture bid no end before the big decision in November.
