I've got a couple of stills from Jenson's attempted overtake on Massa which he was subsequently penalised for. He suggested afterwards that he was in front and that Massa had forced him wide, but we can see from the onboard footage that Massa had his nose in front and gave him slightly more than the width of the McLaren. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image I won't criticise him for bailing because it takes a special talent and much more bravery than I'm ever likely to have to hang it out around there at 140mph. If he'd had the balls to go wheel to wheel though we could have had a thrilling end to an intense battle to kick the season off with.
No, you have to make a split second decision, get it wrong and your race could be finished. Their battle was the highlight of the race for me though, it's a shame it had to end so farcically. It probably would've been the move of the season if he'd made it stick.
Real shame, because Jenson had finally started driving like Lewis, trying to take positions. Unfortunately he is not as calm and level headed, and ended up messing up in frustration He should have given the place back immediately knowing how vindictive and dirty Ferrari/alonso are Instead he tells his team he was ahead and tries to bluff it What was he thinking? Shame he can't be aggressive AND display the tactical intelligence we were led to believe he was a master of
I think he was only just ahead on the turn on for the first corner in the chicane, but Massa had the shorter route, so he got ahead. Maybe that is why he said he was ahead
in still 2, he was already commited to go down the shortcut. It did look to me like he thought that was the track... But im sure he wouldnt make a silly mistake like that?
