I am hoping for a good showing by our men's and especially our women's teams.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing Morgan play for France? Next year he'll become a British citizen and eligible for England if he doesn't play for the France senior side first.

He won't be eligible to play for England. He's also very unlikely, as an EU citizen already, to take British citizenship.

Aren't Manuel Almunia and Mikel Arteta eligible for England?

I believe that all the Home Nations FA's are in an agreement not to use naturalised players. The problem is that if a player has British citizenship, he could be eligible theoretically to play for England, Scotland, Wales or NI. So we won't be seeing Arteta, Almunia or Cudicini any time soon.

Unless he held a British passport before he played for the French youth teams, then he won't be allowed to change nation I believe. It's the reason why Arteta was never eligible for England.

So someone from abroad who came to England at a young age and stayed put would be eligible?

I think Beckham definitely has to play, he put loads of work in to help us get the Olympics. Not to mention how much he's done for England over the years!

Yep, that's why Fabrice Muamba can represent England rather than DR Congo, where he was born. Victor Moses was born in Nigeria too, but played for England at youth level because he'd been in England since he was 11.

Anyone know when squad is released?

Looks like Beckham will be included as well as Bellamy.

Looking forward to it. But I'm actually looking forward to the Cycling, Sailing and Rowing more because we have an excellent chance of coming away with a hoard of Gold medals. What is it the Aussies say..? We're only good at events where we sit down. Got to hand it to them. That's inventive sour grapes. ;)

My understanding is that Pearce submitted an 80-odd man squad about a month ago, before cutting it to a 35 man squad about a fortnight ago. 6th July rings a bell for when the final, 18 man squad, has to submitted - and will therefore be announced - but don't quote me on that.

By all accounts, the FA have agreed with Pearce to back-track ever so slightly on their statement that no player who went to the Euro's will feature in the Olympics, as they both want Butland to play. And in fairness to the FA, when they made that statement, Butland was presumably not in line to go to the Euro's - he only got called in as Ruddy's replacement remember.

Sounds like the three over-23 players will be between Beckham, Giggs, Bellamy and Lampard.

If it was a toss up between the 4 I would rather see Bellamy miss out but seems he already has been told he's in.

I dont think anyone will object to butland being called into the fold he deserves a chance.

I am looking forward to seeing some of the other sports but think as this is our first an probably only british Olympic footy team of my lifetime ill get more excited by the footy.

Bellamy and Giggs will be in as non-English players...they want it to be a British team.

Bale still counts as U23, so he's in. I'm quite looking forward to this. Cork and Jay Rod will certainly be in contention.

It will only be one or two, if any, so I wouldn't worry about the impact on the squad.

Beckham announced himself as Captain several months go, so he`ll be there. Maybe Cheryl Cole too, since she`s been promoted to virtual royalty following the jubilee bash. If she scored, she might take her top..................err, sorry, I`m losing it.

I'm sure people have seen it by now, but the three over 23s are Giggs, Bellamy and Richards.

Assuming Bale and Ramsey are also in there, then there's going to be a fairly strong Welsh contingent, which might help in getting the Welsh fans behind the team.
