Last Import was Eikrem, and he was instrumental for them this season. He was too young to break through for us. We have a buy back option on him though.
Just before the old BBC606 closed down there was a lot of support for Solksjaer to take over from SAF after he'd spent some time as manager in his own right and then returning to OT to spend time under SAF's wing before he retires/moves upstairs. Is now the time for him to return to United now that hes won a title and the Norwegian season is over?
give him another year or two, or bring him back as fergie's assistant first. Let's not rush into anything
I know theres a lot of United supporters that are mentioning Mourinho as their choice as the next United manager but if/when SAF calls it a day he'll leave his team,tactical system,youth team policy etc and it only takes 'an outsider' to come in and change all of that and possibly send the club back to the mediocrity pre-ferguson. You'd be better off keeping it in house if any lasting legacy left by ferguson is to survive after hes gone.
You'd think so, but for every Paisley and Dalglish who succeeds in keeping a legacy alive there's a Souness or McGuiness who turns the legacy into a long term decline...
Agreed,but any of the 'big name' managers that could possibly get the job will want their own choice of assistant,trainers,players that know him and his style of playing etc and that in itself will upset the applecart. Also not many of the top foreign managers play the cavalier style of football expected at OT.
Very true. Ultimately it's always a bit of a gamble replacing such a successful manager with such a big legacy. Heck, Chelsea have struggled long enough to move on from Mourinho and he was only there three years! We should still have the image and the muscle to bring in the players needed to keep the club near the top, but it'll take something special to keep our level of success up if City and Chelsea can still spend like they are doing.
City more so than Chelsea are changing the face of football in this country,until/unless theres a wage cap and a tranfer limit put in place they'll go from strength to strength while the Sheikh is owner.
I dunno, I'm still not convinced people are overestimating Mansour's interest in football and City as a club. He's a UAE politician investing UAE money after all, and much of the investment in City is likely to be linked to the enhanced profile it gives Abu Dhabi and the various UAE companies associated with City. I wonder if, once City secure their first title and embed themselves in the CL, Mansour may realise that he can achieve all his business goals just as well, and much cheaper, with City consistently finishing in the top four and reaching the knock out rounds of the CL and may scale back his investment to those levels. After all, as Wenger showed at Arsenal, it's a lot easier and cheaper to consistently be in the top four than to actually win the PL.
I agree with all this especially that he needs more time, but it is what he said next that impressed me more.
incredible that hes managed to do this in less than 11 months. class act as a player, off to the best possible start as a manager. itde certainly be preferable to keano taking over at the moment, wouldnt it? he seems to have shot his bolt on sunderland.
