So Brizzle have signed Davies for 600k, once again we have missed out on a top target but what is really worrying is that Jewell said Derbys asking price was beyond us, 600k, this is scary, are we that hard up?
Why do our transfer dealings drag on for months and nearly always end in failure? Oh and Westy, sorry but seems like we are still after Edu, another 3 months chasing the same playerand no doubt ending in failure!
I do kind of understand the clubs position with Davies. I dont think its a case of we cant afford it but a case of value for money. If he didnt only have a year left on his contract then it would be a different situation but the whole situation seems weird. Edu reportedly told Scottish papers last week that if he left Rangers it would be for mainland europe as he had already tasted the british style and wanted a totally new experience.
i have to say, this has been one of the strangest saga's of the summer. i think refusing to cave in to a clubs demands is a good thing (and probably correct considering the lads injury issues) but if you lose a target for the sake of a very small amount of money it seems odd. maybe the bristol city link has been manipulated by derby in order to get a bit more money out of you guys? you'll think 'its only £100k more than we want to pay - lets just pay it'... who knows! very strange.
Very strange situation, and for a fan, quite worrying. Who knows, we may have dodged a bullet if he spends half the season injured. However,an extra 100k for our top target isn't much, I would've thought we could stretch that far. What makes it even worse is the fact that there must have been so much admin costs in trying to get him over the three months that if we tied it up earlier, that 100k wouldn't matter!
It has become apparent that this season is a season of transition. The only investment has been long term and toward youth. Evans won't extend Jewell's contract until the season pans out. The tiny amount spent shows ME does not have faith in PJ. I believe FFP is nothing to do with it, it doesn't even start until next season. I can't say that I disagree with this approach. At least we will start to feel a greater connection to the club due to the youthful focus, rather than the misguided throw everything at promotion Keane era. Does anybody know if the Cleggster has caught any snakes?
Not at all concerned by this. Far more concerned by reports that we're interested in taking Robinson on loan from Liverpool.
Lancs, your not concerned about 600k being beyond us yet you are concerned about a linked player, sorry i don't get it!!
Don't think there's anything in that rumor to be honest, probably just a back up plan if Villa do put in a good offer for Cresswell which I can't see happening.
If Robinson came it'd mean the reserves for Cresswell. Developing Liverpool's player while our own top talent sits it out. I'm not bothered about the £600k because I don't think it's that we don't have that money for the right player. We also have to understand that we have just paid off Bullard and that will've cost a fair few bob. I struggle to see why we were wanting Davies at all to be honest. I was bothered about Charlie Austin though and he was magnificent on Saturday.
