This is first and foremost a football forum. On this basis I have decided to take a quick straw poll to see whether the majority of our members would like to see our board continue in its present form or would prefer a restriction on Off-Topic threads. I thought that this would be a good time to review this as any changes could be implemented on commencement of the new football season, should that be the case. If you have an opinion relating to this please make it known below.
One OT thread for all OT subjects. Religion, politics, Commonwealth Games, bagels whatever can then all be argued and fumed over in one place.
Lets get rid of all this crap spamming up the forum. We'll never recruit new members looking for a place to discuss QPR if the most prominent threads are about cheese. Loyal members are already dropping like flies- Flyer, Col, Queenie+Swords are still pretty absent. Gimmiethickerhoops banned. It feels a bit like the forum's dying a death by a thousand cuts
How many Adel threads do we need? Same old same old gets a bit boring. I don't have a problem with OT threads, if I'm not interested in them I ignore them, same applies to football threads. I like the variety and don't see any problem as long as they don't descend into personal insults...
Some times the OT threads are far more interesting than some of the football one's. It can be very interesting to read people expressing different views in a controlled fashion. I think the OT threads should continue but some posters need to learn not to jump down another poster's throat when they offer an alternative opinion. Too many people take things too seriously and too personal and threads often deteriorate quickly. Continue with the OT's is what I say but people need to stop the point scoring and carry over grievance's from previous threads which is what appears to be happening at the moment,.
A certain person does seem intent on turning the board to mush. Getting rid of OT threads will make no difference as there will then just be a rash of stupid threads with supposedly on-topic subjects.
Exactly this. I personally like the balance and have been enjoying posting again. That is until 2 days ago when the board started to get hijacked.
The less Mod interference the better. I love 9's and Roller but like a good referee, the less you hear from them the better. (Unless when they're contributing as normal posters )
Matt, you have been on top, top form recently, triffic stuff. Tricky one. Personally my favourite threads are the OT ones, or the football nostalgia ones............when they are quality. So Wubba's cheese thread was brilliant, the current one isn't. Quality is the key, and that comes from the poster. So my counter proposal is that we throw the rules out of the window and the mods just ban crap posters at will. No appeal, no review.
I Don't post on here often but when I do ,it doesn't matter if it's OT or not, It's just the utter banality of Neil's threads that riles me
Yes this is primarily a football forum primarily for QPR fans all over but let me ask you this - When those fortunate enough to meet up - do you just talk about football? No, doubted it, the OT threads provide a small insight into ranch others persona - I wager a significant part of this particular section of the forum's succes is that we know to- Not go to hard on 9999 s as he's probably shattered most of the time from the selfless job he does. Queens has not had it that easy and his confrontational style is more of a facade and not to be taken at face value. SB73 has exactly the same morals and values as I have but far more eloquent and sharp. DT has undoubtedly had a fascinating life full of ups and downs, he's worked hard to concentrate on the ups. Rangercol has QPR in Common with me and nothing else, but what a thing to have in common. I could go on as I usually can - but I think I've made my point. Anyway - up the Rrrrrrs and Harry, Joe and Kevin out, out, out!!!!
I doubt I'd post here much if at all if it was restricted tbh. Banter is crucial to any healthy forum IMO. If people want to discuss football only just don't comment on other threads surely?
I often prefer the OT threads to the football ones, so certainly wouldn't want them restricted. In fact I would be less inclined to visit the site at all if the only topic for discussion was QPR. Perhaps the answer to the recent outbreak of inane threads is to just ignore them.
I don't see why any topic needs scrapping. As long as it doesn't become petty bickering it's healthy to discuss whatever people want to IMO.
Neil/secret/Cerny is filling this board with utter **** which is hugely frustrating. Apart from his crap I haven't really had a problem with OT threads. That said, if it's the only way to get rid of his drivel then so be it!
That's exactly how I feel, I'm very much into laissez-faire, freedom of expression. I also don't see the point of closing threads, why not let them run until they die naturally assist threads do? I understand the urge to see off threads which deal with challenging issues which inevitably attract volatile opinions and posters, but it doesn't seem to make the stuff go away, it just flows over into other unrelated threads. Temporarily banning people is next to useless, they just come back with the same behaviour or stay away for good, as may be the case with col.
