http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31688474 I know this subject has been kicked about before, but surely now is time for the Football World to stand up and be counted against this vile country and Putin in the way it reacts to the rest of the World. Can anyone come up with a good argument to allow 2018 world Cup to carry on in Russia after the way they have annexed Crimea, invaded Eastern Ukraine, murdered 298 people in shooting down MH17 in July, murdered Boris Nemtsov last week and the daily racial abuse against all ethnic minorities. The World has got to make a stand and Football could take the lead by withdrawing the 2018 World Cup and the platform for Putin to "strut his stuff"
Absolutely spot on Yarco and something that I have suggested previously in earlier threads. Although the argument is totally different, I also feel that the 2022 farce should be abondoned as well, but that is another story. Putin's posturing is abhorrent and yet the rest of the World just do not seem to be able to construct a coherent position to blunt his outrages. I wonder if the platform to break down the 2018 event might be simply safety as there is no way that Russia would be able to properly guarantee the safety of anyone be that players or supporters. We also know from the Winter Olympics that bribes were widely paid to grease palms for the contractors and the World Cup will be as least as bad. If the threat was carried out and the World boycotted the tournament - it would help to bankrupt the country financially as it already is bankrupt morally.
