The Reds are rumoured to be about to break the Premier League overseas TV rights deal: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/liverpool-want-bigger-share-overseas-tv-money-004151674.html
I wonder when these clubs start to negotiate with UEFA for super league in Europe, where they break away from the league & cup competitions in their indigenous countries all together.
I can see where they are coming from, I was in Thailand on holiday when we were in the premiership, I tried to get several bars to put city on (cant remember who we where playing but it wasnt one of the big 4/5) and no-one would, they were only interested in Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal (poss Man City now). If they are the "star" attraction then maybe they should be worth more? That been said, I dont agree with it, there is already a gap between the big 4/5 and the others, more money would just widen that
big european clubs sponsor schools etc in thailand. just look at the knock off shirts to see the most popular clubs.
its all about greed greed and more greed. they get enough already. SAF has spoken the best comments on this.
its racing straight into a coma unless the UEFA FAIR PLAY FINANCIAL regulations are made to work Properly.
When even SAF is saying "no no, we get enough money as it is, look after the smaller clubs" you know the deal doesn't need to be better for the big clubs.
There's two conflicting requirements. The national leagues need to be as competitive as possible and our best teams need to be able to compete in Europe. If the Financial Fair Play system is sensible it might be possible to do both. But obviously it should take into account how the national associations/leagues share out TV money. Should we not take into account the sponsorship deals as well? If we take into account those two why should we leave ticket revenue alone? What's wrong with the away club getting an equal/unequal share? There wouldn't be a game otherwise and a large minority of the spectators go to the match because of the away side.
