Massengo is one of those players who is irritating to the opposition ... has boundless energy and could be used with such. One thing I noticed with the world cup teams there always seemed to be player waiting up field [ in own half ] when under seige! Suerely if you keep a player up near the centre circle attacking team keeps 2 players close [ not man marking ] when there wasnt all opposition was in attacking half .... I can not understand why our forwards sometimes get praise for clearing off line or heading out or stopping a goal .... surely they are interfereing with defence and defensive positions?
I think his handling of several player's supposed issues were somewhat off key, but I have never seen why people get so hyped up about Massengo.
My comment regarding Massengo was, that NP doesn’t want to offer him a new contract, we could all see that in the summer. Therefore, why didn’t he sell him, rather than run his contract down. We are not in an era where he can be so wasteful with assets of value.
My understanding is he’s been offered a new contract but doesn’t want to sign it, he has chosen to run it down, there has been no offer for him, so not a choice on our/NP’s part, but by the players himself.
I knew he was offered a new contract that he wasn't prepared to accept and I can only surmise that is the reason he is playing for the under 23's. He should have been moved on when his stock was at it's highest but I can't see getting anything in January for him.
Not to sure on this but wasnt his dad his agent / advisor and there was an offer that was to on the point of being signed as / just before NP came along. They were both very happy with and at BCFC
HNM had his family living between here and France (Dad here and Mum and sister there) From what I was told is he wanted to go back to Europe so they can all be together.
suppose south west of france better than south west ENGLAND Parents from the Congo I believe MAYBE not playing him and giving him a chance to catch the eye doesnt help
He wasn’t moved on because we’ve had no offer, you can only move someone on if someone else wants to buy him.
HNM imo has not been coached or used properly, such a different outlet for us and something else for the opposition to think about.....how many away fans in the past have been impressed?? But we press on with the same old same old....I know some in here don't rate him......I do, but must be used effectively.....he sees passes others don't....makes himself always available and puts a foot in quite often to break up oppositions play.... Our manager just doesn't see it!!
Not sure he will be here long....max next two games without points.......I just hope we are scouting while we make our mind up!!
I agree with a lot of this and the positive things he brings to the side; however, the arguments against him are, He’s easily knocked doff the ball by bigger, stronger opponents He can’t score for toffee He often overruns the ball putting the midfield and defence under pressure That said, James and Williams are just as guilty of the last 2 points. For me this is another example of Pearson downright stubbornness to not use him, even off the bench. As a club we will pay dearer for these things this if we get relegated, than Pearson will if he gets sacked.
and yet he said something similar gets a foot in breaks up play makes good passes ............. uuuuum, that last comment he does but no one reads them or moves to where they should be. Maybe should play Massengo now we have Conway and WELLS up front
Although I have never been a fan of Massengo due to his constant errors I will confess to liking some of his passes and movement. Does that mean that his final touches are rubbish or are we using him incorrectly? Would he be more effective in a more forward position or is his lot destined to be midfield? Right now based on this season his value has to be close to zero but could we tie him up in a multi-player deal where several players switch with multiple clubs involved? I hope the wires are buzzing with activity regarding strengthening the defence in January and a secret outlet on the managerial front.
I’m frankly gutted that yet again we have huffed, puffed fizzled and farted but never really looked like getting to the Valhalla that SL claims that he wants. He has certainly put his money where his mouth is, but somehow we keep stuttering and stumbling along without finding the key. Other clubs with less money than us seem to find it - so what’s our problem?
I truly believe that Lansdown is a hidden control freak because you can't tell me that with all the top class players that have passed through the halls of Ashton Gate we weren't capable of achieving anything? The tin pot trophy doesn't count although it was a fabulous (sort of) break on my way back home to Canada. When you look back at all the screaming on this site due to some problem or other the ultimate finger pointed at Steve Lansdown and that would include the rapid departure by Coppell and many other issues. When it comes down to the major decisions in regard to the club's operations SL rules the roost and on many occasions we often asked if the decision would ever arrive, yet alone a new manager to fill the void. The decision to appoint the deputy has happened at least twice in my memory and both led to shocking results and supporter dismay. After all the years I have followed Bristol City since Steve Lansdown came aboard I feel our club have been permanently in either a wheelspin or tailspin and I keep asking myself why the hell do I bother. The desire that we constantly hear about from our executive only appears to be words, rather than the actual action that really is needed. At some point someone has to get off their ass and deal with the ever present problems surrounding Bristol City, and as the only sign of life around the club are the bums in the seats isn't it about time they are considered as a huge asset rather than uninterested mushrooms?
The way I've seen it for a long time is that he's been a saviour on one hand, and has possibly interfered and made bad appointments/made bad decisions on the other. I guess that's the dilemma when you have that much money and power, but don't necessarily think that others, although infinitely more qualified in matters of football know better.
When you are spending as much of your own money, as he has over the years on player purchases & salaries etc it’s human nature thar you’d want some level of control over what it’s spent on.
