not606 Star Player League

    Been trying to think of a new competition for next season to run alongside my brb prediction league, albeit separate.

    If i look around football sites in general, most run a man of the match poll or something of a similar nature, even including local papers with voting poll's. So i got to thinking how can i turn this in to something positive but also a bit of fun at the same time for our site?

    The interesting part about man of the match polls is sometimes one player will run away with the vote for a particular game and other times opinion will be totally split, so the idea I have come up with is that after each game, every Gills not606 member selects their top three players from each game.

    Naturally as a multi board site, unlike the brb prediction league, only Gills supporters will be allowed to to participate. However, in this day of instant technology ie Gills Player etc, non attendees and overseas Gills will be allowed to take part, plus it just adds that extra twist to the fun.

    I will then collate your votes/scoring and formulate that into a table in exactly the same way I do for the brb prediction league each week.

    So to the rules. I'm open to adapting them to ideas at this early stage of the new venture. But firstly and most importantly, I want everything to be kept positive. I would like to be able to place a link to twitter regarding the game and the last thing i want is to be running something detriment to the site and players. We have plenty of other threads for outspoken opinion.

    My suggestion and this is open to your thoughts is as example;

    1. (Man of the Match) Danny Kedwell = 3pts
    2. (2nd best performance) Brennan Dickenson = 2pts
    3. (3rd best performance) Stuart Nelson = 1pt

    I would like it to be a close run competition because i know some favourites will be selected each week, so i don't want to give a greater variance really in the points then i have given, to ensure each player stays within a chance of winning.

    Every player voted by a member will be given the relevant number of points and a position in the Star Player League table, no player will enter the Star Player League table until given voting points.

    I will apply the same rules as the brb prediction league, that it will include all 46 league matches and FA Cup ONLY. No other matches and No play-offs.

    I dd think about giving goal scorer points etc but then that creates imbalance and i have to start adding in all sorts of other probabilities and it gets too cmplex and time consuming, so i thought keep it simple and straight to the point. However, if you do have any suggestions for an added twist, please post them below but remember those two things for me please, keep it simple and it most be fair, balanced and applicable to every single player regardless of position.

    Oh and no negative stuff, so nothing included for the lesser performing players.

    Thanks brb

    ps. i meant to add, the points will be applied for each vote, so not for a tally of all the votes. So if 30 members vote Keds as man of the match in the first game against MK Dons, then he gets 90 points but obviously this will be balanced out over every game, once other man of the match players are selected. I now need go run some tests on the table that this is actually going to work lol

    Views please and can you comment if this idea gets your support...

    I'm slightly confused, is it the players who receive the points or us going for the most popular m.o.m?

    The players. It will be a players league. You just vote each game your top three, so basically you have a match by match say who is your player of the season of sorts. The more Gills supporters i can get interested the better, because it means we will have a better percentage of opinion. I would just like us to do something for the team for a change rather than ourselves, message boards such as ours quite often get stick for being negative, blah, blah, blah...so this is everyone's chance to give something positive. I would like it if everyone would participate and gradually spread the word. I'll try and run some tests this afternoon to demonstrate what the table will look like.

    Can people please register their support for this below. Thanks.

    Seems like a good idea to me brb and I would definitely participate in this. May I just ask would you have to vote every week as there are some games which I do not go to?

    No, people don't have to vote every week. Members can vote whenever they feel it is appropriate, this could include non attendees as away games might be listened to on Gills Player or watched on the later video playback. I'm conscious of not excluding overseas supporters. I will try and ensure the multi media aspect is included within the timescale that every player voting thread is left open.

    ok, i've done a test table and it works, looks a bit silly at the moment because i wanted to test the points capacity but all came out ok, just need to display it here now to see what needs tweaking;

    Sounds like a great idea.
    Not sure if I am reading it correctly. So this is voting for man of the match in our opinion and then all the points are added together and then at the end of the season that will show who has got the most points from man of the match?

    If so that is a great idea as that will show us how much of an impact some players have had as I think sometimes some players don't get as much credit as they should.

    Yes, that is correct Hoadie. Each individual member vote earns points for any selected player for each individual game.

    ok so to clairfy, each week i will put up a Star Player League thread and all members have to do after each game is put three Gillingham FC player names next to the following categories and i will do the rest;

    1. 3 points (Man of the Match) -
    2. 2 points (2nd best performing player) -
    3. 1 point (3rd best performing player) -

    I will include the above list in each game thread so you will be able to just copy and paste and add your selected player names, or you can just list your player names in the relevant consecutive order without the template.

    Every and each members selection, will earn that player points, so for example if brb selected Keds as MOTM and Gills PegLeg selected Keds as MOTM, the player would earn a total of six points (2 x 3pts) etc.

    Timing; Each thread will be created before match day but please do not post your selections until the game is nearly complete, preferably completed.

    Each thread will remain open until the following times as follows;

    Saturday games will close on a Monday evening
    Monday games will close on a Wednesday evening
    Tuesday games will close on a Thursday evening
    Friday games will close on a Sunday evening

    I still need to look at Christmas timings.

    The updated table will then be created after the closure of each thread. Exactly the same as the brb prediction league but this time players names. Due to the timings the Star Player League table will be later posting than the brb prediction league tables.

    Please do not post detriment comments about players, i want the best performers only. If you are not happy with a performance and cannot select three players, then simply don't vote but it would be nice if people could do so to keep within the spirit of the competition.

    If you think i've overlooked something, please say and i will look into your comment. Remember people i need to keep this simple for ease of administration.

    I will eventually tidy all this up and copy the currently miss-mash of rules into the weekly game by game threads.

    Disclaimer; I have not copied this idea from anywhere, so any replication is purely coincidence. If you steal this idea please give us credit -thanks

    Correct, me if I am wrong but hasn't Kane Haysman left the Gills now and joined Sutton United?

    not checked but thanks, I can take him out if that's the case. I'm a bit lazy pre-season and don't keep up. I have to try and include as many names as possible and then tag new arrivals on otherwise it makes it a mare for the formula. But great, please people that's exactly what i want, point out errors, because naturally its a full time task keeping up with everything.

    Hoadie - maybe a little task for you if you don't mind, you seem to keep up with player moves, so any in's and out's please let me know. Although once a player earns points, he stays in the table even if he leaves the club.

    Yeah that is correct. I just checked it and yeah he has joined Sutton United on a 1 year deal.
    I can't believe we have let him go as the other day I said I hoped he broke through this season as I see him as one of our biggest talents. It's such a shame we decided to let him go as I think he will turn out to be a very good player as he seems to fit the style that Taylor would play.

    I might consider voting.
    I will NOT include ANY negatives or positives in this post.
    I will vote for MY choice - without qualification (as you request) - which leads me to ponder...

    You say
