Surely this is a step too far. Whoever Moyes brings in has only been used to working with mid-rate players in a predominantly Premier League set up, surely the common sense approach would have been to retain a core of coaching staff who were entirely familiar with the playing squads and to integrate new staff over time. Give Phelan. Steele and Meulensteen 12 months to put out feelers to other clubs and then release them once the new staff are bedded in and the players are comfortable with them. If it ain't broke - don't fix it David.
Meulensteen had done a great job .. am gonna be gutted agree not a smart move.. UTD should had should had kept majority of key staffs to make the transaction much more smoother
Complete bollocks, that bloke has been amazing. Fergie retires gutted but I got it. Phelan wanted a manager's job and was to close to fergie, I got it. Steele went didn't make sense as he was great but accepted it. This though has really ****ed me off don't get it, don't understand it!
I agree with you all on this, he should been retained for continuity. I get why Moyes wants his own staff, and bear in mine McClair will still be there and Butt is there (seems like they're staying at least) and with maybe Scholes and Giggs in future the link should remain, but one of the first team coaches should have stayed. Just seems strange to not do that.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2331581/Rene-Meulensteen-seeks-Manchester-United-exit-departure-Sir-Alex-Ferguson.html It seems he was offered a lesser role. Very disappointed, but not really surprised, if you're taking on the manager's role where instant success is demanded then Moyes is always going to go with people he knows/trusts.
Ultimatly its hard to gauge these job changes, ultimatly as little has come out in the way of why these Phelan, Steele and maybe Meulensteen have decided to leave. I wasn't surprised about Phelan as usually the number 2 will leave when the manager changes, surprised about Steele though and like i say if Meulensteen goes as well its a bit surprising, however this may not have been a decision made by Moyes, there may have been a difference in opinion and these guys may not have wanted to stay on under a new manager, so unless we do find out (doubtful) i think its unfair to blame either Moyes or the coaches
Moyes certainly wants his own set-up, he has plans. United have had continuity for 20 odd years, at some point everything had to change, this is that time. I am sure all will be forgiven if ye land the title next year.
Hope he doesn't go - I was half hoping Rene would take over as assistant manager as I think he's one of the main reasons for our success over the last six or seven years. Latest rumours are if he does go he'll be replaced as first team coach by Phil Neville, which seems a bit ridiculous given Neville spent most of his Utd career behind some of the players he'd be supposed to be coaching! I'll believe it when it's officially announced by the club.
