Too many draws against team we should be beating, throwing away comfortable leads, defensive howlers, the list goes on. We've been patient as Arsenal fans, but if this season ends empty handed again, we're going to have to make some radical changes. It's okay to have good potential in the squad, but we need players who can make the difference now. I don't think there's much wrong with our squad, but the gaps are obvious. This summer we need a top CB, cover at DM and imo another top striker. Otherwise it's going to be another season of nearly, but not quite..... Thoughts?
True, but to be fair its been that kind of season for all the top clubs. United will be hurt more with the loses of VDS, Giggs & Scholes but United & Chelsea are rebuilding and this has been Arsenal's great chance to win the title after six years without. Unless Wenger swallows and buy's they may well fall further should Chelsea & United strengthen further.
It's so frustrating, how the **** are Utd seven pts clear? Arsenal would have been almost home and dry by now, but for the lack of a couple of key players who could have made the difference. Ah well, at least we haven't spent ã50m on a striker who hasn't scored any goals eh?
I_Love_Pompey Welcome to Not606 Arsenal boys on here are a good bunch so be nice or they will have you ****ed off Capice
Deja Vu is what I felt after the final whistle. Once again we have let ourselves down when the pressure built up. Was happy to see Wenger not try to sugar coat it though
It has been a funny season for sure - Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all seem to have been trying their best to lose it. If any of the three had played to their potential they'd be over the hills and far away by now. It seems like all the players are now in a sort of collective coma of expecting underachievement, and we've only been able to break out of it cos we got Valencia back who actually remembers what it's like to play winning football again and has managed to wake up some of the rest of the team. And you're right about the summer. Arsenal's squad has the greatest potential to be better next season, but all their improvement will be for nothing if Chelsea and United bring in more players and leapfrog them again. Hernandez, Smalling and Luiz have been immense this season, and if we make similar signings next season we'll be able to stay ahead of Arsenal again.
Well, with the stadium debt 95% paid off and over ã100 million in the bank, it's going to be hard for Wenger to justify not spending in the summer after seeing his team stumble at more or less the same stage (Feb/Mar) as they have done for the last three or four years. Also, it seems to me like his recent press conferences have been more accepting of the fact that you are missing some crucial things in important areas. So maybe he'll splash the cash on the established stars this summer?
Another CB is surely a must? and to really create a robust squad we need cover at DM with a player who is at least as good as Song. I also think we need another top striker, RVP seems like the only CF who wants to shoot sometimes.
You guys annoy me, i really thought you would win the league this year, but you seem to consistently mess up winnable games. If you lose fab in the summer (hope you dont) i can't see you putting much of a title challenge together next year. Chelsea will run away with it next year i reckon, especially if they spend big again. Now United will most probaly win it this year and i have to put up with fans that have never even seen old trafford going on about how great they are. And most of us Pomey fans arn't like "I_Love_Pompey" hes clearly a massive dumbass.
Dunno about CB - I'm always of the opinion that you need two top class CBs (Verm and Djorou), one solid backup (Kos) and a couple of decent backup options (Squil and Miquel). So you seem ok in that area - you can't really plan for defensive injury crises like the one you've had this season and we had last season. Squillaci is a bit error prone, but I think he'd do better playing alongside a partner with a steady run of games - your defence seems to have been a bit mashed together this season. But yes, a solid CM and striker are a must - Nasri and Walcott have been more prolific than Chamakh and Bendtner this season. You really need another Vieira and Henry - maybe Wenger could invest that ã100 mill in a time machine?
I think we need a new left back (as Clichy seems likely to leave and an established player always leaves every summer), a new top quality DM and a striker who is at least as good as RvP but is a different type of player to him. Aguero would be nice but he is a fantasy buy and I can't see us shelling out on him. Either way, things have to change.
