The Black Cats arrive on the back of a six-match winless run, with the only victory in their last 11 league outings coming at home to Manchester United in mid-February. The Canaries appeared to have turned a corner with a draw and two wins against Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United respectively, but were brought back down to earth with a bump last time out at Selhurst Park when they were narrowly beaten by Crystal Palace. please log in to view this image Marin Olsson is mobbed by his team mates after his injury time winner against Newcastle Mackems' chief Sam Allardyce has declared tomorrow's game a 'must not lose' rather than a 'must win' as defeat for his side would leave them seven points behind the Canaries with games running out fast. With regard to team news City's Swiss international defender Timm Klose faces a race to be fit after injuring his knee at Selhurst Park, Sebastien Bassong is on standby to deputise. Canaries defender Russell Martin has recovered from a knock and is available for selection although he is unlikely to feature in the starting eleven. Sunderland have a fully-fit squad at their disposal and could bring Duncan Watmore back into the fold, the youngster having scored a consolation goal for the Black Cats in a 3-1 defeat in the reverse fixture back in August. please log in to view this image Sunderland's Duncan Watmore Alex Neil's Match Preview Alex Neil previews tomorrow's big game "This is what we play football for, to be involved in big games. The focus is going to be on the game and rightly so," he said. "We've been in high pressure situations quite a lot of the time since I've been here, and you've got to enjoy it and go and show everybody what you can do. "It's really important with the magnitude of the game that the players and the fans recognise the occasion and more importantly enjoy it. "The clappers and the noise of the crowd helped everyone against Newcastle. The importance of that game is very similar to this one.” Sam Allardyce's Match Preview Sam Allardyce gives his thoughts “What we have to do is hold our nerve; kicking off early is an advantage for both teams to try and get a victory, but there is much more pressure on us than Norwich. “They wouldn’t be too displeased with a draw, but we have to try and win” Current Form (Most Recent First) Norwich City LWWDL NORWICH HOME Norwich have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 0 of the last 8 stagings of this fixture, outscoring their opponents by 12 goals to 5. MATCH STATISTICS www.kickoff.co.uk Fixture History There have been 59 competitive meetings between the two sides with the Canaries having the upper hand. To date City have 27 wins, Sunderland have 15 and there have been 17 stalemates. City's biggest margin of victory over the Rokerites (as they were then known), is by 4 goals to 1 which was on 7th February 1962 at Roker Park in the 5th Round of the Football League Cup. They would eventually go on to win the competition that year beating Rochdale over two legs in the final 4-0. Sunderland's best was a 7-1 mauling of the Canaries on the 20th March 1963 in League Division Two also at Roker Park. The most notable encounter was in 1985 at Wembley Stadium where Norwich lifted the Milk (League) Cup beating Sunderland by a solitary goal. In truth it was a rather dour affair for the neutral with the only real highlights being Asa Hartford's deflected goal for City and Clive Walker's missed penalty for Sunderland. please log in to view this image Chris Woods, Paul Haylock and Steve Bruce celebrate with the Milk Cup trophy in 1985 Highest Norwich City Score Sunderland 1 Norwich City 4 Highest Sunderland Score Sunderland 7 Norwich City 1 Highest Aggregate (8) Sunderland 7 Norwich City1 Club Connections Among those who have turned out for both the Black Cats and the Canaries are: Keith Bertschin, Chris Brown, Shaun Elliot, Dickson Etuhu, David Hodgson, Chris Woods, Carlos Cuellar and Michael Turner. please log in to view this image David Hodgson of Sunderland is tackled by City's Asa Hartford during the 1985 Milk Cup Final Norwich playmaker Wes Hoolahan trialed with Sunderland as a teenager. Did You Know ? Ever since the 1985 Milk Cup final the two clubs have contested the 'Friendly Cup' in each season they have been in the same division, this is to commemorate the goodwill shown between the two sets of supporters that day. It was unusual because it was a time when football hooliganism was rife, indeed Norwich were to be denied entry into European competition because of events that unfolded in the European Cup final later that same year at the Heysel Stadium. Liverpool's notorious fans ran riot which led to 39 people losing their lives, subsequently English clubs were banned from playing in Europe for five years with Liverpool being excluded for six. Anyone know a link for the game on safari/apple iPad? Much appreciated if so can't miss this one! Thanks
I knew there was a reason for avoiding the hype around the iPhone/iPad - only joking and hope someone can help you!!!
I am keeping my fingers crossed that Klose will be in the starting 11. We look way better with him at the back.
Well done KIO, great effort! All on you, if we bottle this now!! The thing that's worrying me, is all the stats the pundits are bringing out. Sunderland not won in 5 games against us. Sunderland only won 3 of their last 27 away games. One clean sheet in 17 games. Not won in the last 6 games. Blah blah blah.... Smacks of Villa and Palace games.
I can't see this concept catching on somehow Nor his choice of lingo at this time of the morning joseph @NUFCJoseph 25m25 minutes ago ATTENTION ALL NEWCASTLE FANS...! SET YOUR RIVALRIES ASIDE AND MAKE YOUR AVI THIS..! TOGETHER WE'LL CATCH NORWICH!!!! please log in to view this image
This is brilliant!! You basically predict all remaining scores for the three clubs and you'll see a final league table updated to show your results. Being completely unbiased, I had us to finish comfortably in 17th, on 36 points, seven points clear of the other two - and I factored in us losing to Watford! Be interested to hear a few other people's predicted finish based on this? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/premier-league-relegation-predictor-you-7766136?
