Darron Gibson - Long term replacement for Nolan?

Firstly I will discuss the negatives -

has yet to have a prolonged run in the premiership
hasn't been consistently good enough (slated by Utd fans)
    not high profile enough
may think he's better than NUFC

    now the positives -

Hard worker - can tackle back also
can pick a pass - evidence vs Schalke
an eye for goal, scored some fine goals
    young - 23/24 yrs old i think
    Point to prove?

I myself am not saying he IS the long term replacement for Nolan, but could he be? he would give us more mobility as well as creating chances for our forwards, Gibson, Joey central with Tiote just behind ? I think it could be decent, only thing is could our NUFC youngsters do a similar job? (Vuckic?) not sure.

Fergie obviously sees something in him, could be worth a bid of 6 mill? get Simmo on the case - he's come on since leaving the Red devils...

I'm 50/50 but just wanted others opinions - after all this is what the forum is for.

(please ignore the duplicate a certain someone is sure to make within the next few hours :p)

Sick of buying players who arent good enough for Chelsea or Manu e.g. Butt, Smith, Geremi. So please please no. They always turn out ****. If he cant cut it in the PL why do we want him?

Is he really the sort of player we want to be aiming for?

That's what i was asking !! ha, It's not that he isn't good enough for Man Utd either, he played in a champs league semi final ffs and played very well. I think he will become as good as fletcher - so IMO i'm saying we should get him,

he isn't in the same category as Butt, Geremi, Smith as these were players at the end of their careers so to speak. Quite different I think

I think Vuckic is the long term successor of Nolan.

I think Vuckic too could be the answer, but he needs to be given his chance for this to happen. Lets hope he has a good pre season (injury gone) and gets some game time asap.

Agree. You have to remember players look better when they have class players around them. So if he can't doesn't look that good at Man U he would probably be very ordinary in a lesser team

Think Vuckic will be Ben Arfas understudy, but once again everyone is forgetting Gosling who could also be Nolans replacement. Not to sure how he is in front of goal though.

Vuckic as Ben Arfa's understudy, both talented players and Vuckic it seems has bags of potential!

Yeah as alot of people have said we've got some quality youngster's coming through such as Vuckic and Gosling...

I have to say im not the biggest fan of Gibson all he does is shoot, atleast Lampard has a decent ratio with this tactic.

The only reason he is half decent is because he has top quality players around him!!

Nolan's replacement is going to be very difficult to find, he needs to be a goalscorer and a motivational captain, or at least motivational. Because of this, I'd say he has to be English as you dont really get the same feel from foreign players that they can be as good a leader. I honestly dont think there is another player like that at all so I guess I hope Vuckic is Nolan's replacement, and Barton displaces him as captain when we can no longer accommodate him in the side.
