my friends here bemoan the lack of wingers
Are people really going to drop Vargas
Do they not realise Fer has goals in him and can get higher in the air than most in the league
    And has quick feet
Do people really want these two replaced with holiest Phillips and swp or do they just think we should buy ronaldo and bale
    Ffs
We are too scared to break up Barton and Henry who did well today

And therein lies the biggest obstacle to getting a balanced midfield...

Vargas has struggled for weeks imo. Fer is the laziest player I've seen since Boswanker.
We either need to change our formation or play Isla further forward on the right and, yes, I'd play Hoilett on the left and keep him there.
We can't split up Barton and Henry in the centre because Barton is undropable and Henry is our best holding player.
In an ideal world, I'd play a fit Sandro in front of the back four with Barton alongside him. Then I'd play Taarabt behind Austin with Vargas and Zarate or Hoilett each side of Taarabt.

Fer and Vargas are not wingers.
We have many problem areas in the team at the moment but the biggest is the lack of wingers. Harry has been unlucky in the fact that Hoilett and Philips have been so poor.
I'd like yo see Vargas partner Austin upfront for a stretch of games. Austin has no pace and Vargas would also run the hard yards. Id also like to see Barton dropped and Fer given a run in the Central position. For this to happen we need to get in a new winger with pace.

I think to get a new winger in the board is insisting that one or more of our existing **** wingers leave. And none of them want to go.

In a 4-4-2, the team is hamstrung without at least one pacey winger.
    In a 4-4-2 Id go

    ----------Green
    Isla Dunne Caulker Yun
    ----------Henry
    New----------------Hoilett
    ----------Fer
    --Vargas------Austin

    Options
    Henry or Sandro
    Isla or Onouha
    New or Isla
    Fer or Mutch
    Vargas or Adel

Yep. Or you could play Ned at right back (as we don't have one) and put Isla wide right. I'd definitely play a fit Taarabt in the centre.

I think 4-4-2 is part of the problem we don't currently have a proper fit LB or RB so instead play a CB who doesn't have the legs for LB & a WB, the same holds true for Midfield.

Unless we get the right players in b4 the end of the month the only other option is to change formation to try match what we have so something like:

    ------------------ Green

    ---- Onouha -- Dunne/Hill -- Caulker ----

    ------------- Henry/Sandro

    Isla/Barton ----- Barton/Fer ------ Hoilett/Yun

    ------ Vargas/Kranky ---- Zarate/Tarbs

    ------------------ Austin

Whether the players could actually stick to the formation I don't know but?

Hoilett would be the solution but unfortunately is utter ****e.

Vargas does his best but it's clearly not his position. Fer doesn't do his best and it's even more not his position. Personally I'd play Traore on the wing. Admittedly he's mostly **** too but not quite as **** as Hoilett or Fer.

In among some really battling performances yesterday (Henry in particular nearly ran himself into the ground) Fer was our weakest link by far. Slow both in movement and thought, gave the ball up more times than Barton (!) and had a major hand in allowing their first goal. For once Redknapp nearly got the tactics right but made a major blunder in not swapping Taarabt for Fer much earlier than he did.

Fer has a few great cracks on goal and he really gets up in the air (seemed to just hang their on one iccasion), but it really annoys me by his lack of interest in attempting to retrieve a lost ball. In this match he gave the ball away that led to their 1st goal, then just shrugged his shoulders instead of trying to regain possession and he was also present, not making a challenge in the build up to their 2nd goal.
