"We created enough chances to have won."
No we didn't .. .. we didn't create enough and more importantly didn't score enough..

Every game throughout the season turns up a goal for every 3 shots on target with 1 goal for about 7 shots and 9 corners based on top 12 teams in 3 divisions.
yesterday was a better day , remove the penalty and 14 shots 6 on and 6 corners = 3 goals for Birmingham

for City 10 shots 2 on and 3 corners so at worst it might be 2-1! our 2 shots on were both goals.

So we need to get real, yes we played quite well had a lot of possession but we certainly did not do enough to win, need that missing link up to the corners and cross me thinks

Goes back to my point on another thread. Yes, I DO agree that possession is important, we had 59% yesterday which is HUGE (especially away from home) and a stat you don't very often see.

However, all our possession resulted in only 2 shots on target and Birmingham out did us in virtually EVERYTHING (shots on and off target, corners), except fouls with their 41%.

There is something fundamentally wrong with this statement.

Don't get me wrong, I love that we are passing it around great and look good, it was what we craved for in the wilderness years before SC, to look like a football team again but there is something missing.

Possession is great but it must be with a purpose and I do sometimes think that we pass it around for the sake of it. Sadly, we do not have Messi to spark us into life with that incisive pass and movement so we need to be more clinical both with our passing and the finishing and, what the hell has happened to our defence...?!!!

(meanwhile, McCormack has already scored and is creating havoc in the first 15 minutes of the Fulham v Blackburn game)

That corner stat, where does it come from?

City are creating enough chances to win games, but are not defending well enough to give themselves the opportunity to. Corners v City is a achilles heel. Corners are not as hard to defend as Bristol City are making them and goals should not be conceded as regularly if all are sure of their roles, and can carry them out competently.

wiz .. .. .. makes poor reading although I did say 8 from first 8 games would be minimum so need a win and a draw!

cliff .. .. .. when I did the "stats " it is basically all goals except penalties are based on the report on BBC ..
example randomly from yesterday Burnley game 12 6 and 5 corners Sheff stats not done as bottom 12

3 goals so 1 goal per 4 shots
3 goals so 1 goal per 2 shots
3 goals so 1 goal per rounded up 2 shots per corner

however in a game which finishes 0-0 or 1 - 0 same principles are used

    Brighton V Hull 1-0 .. 26 6 and 8 work it through yourself.. 1 goal for 26 shots add 12 for Burnley and 4 goals for 38 = 1 in 9.5

the goals per corners is the weakest link as all the goals could have come from corners ! and is the corner also regarded as a shot??? did it as it was there!

    Prem which statement?

    This one JGF.

However, all our possession resulted in only 2 shots on target and Birmingham out did us in virtually EVERYTHING (shots on and off target, corners), except fouls with their 41%.

with 20% more of the play, there is NO WAY that the opposition should be having more shots and corners than us but, it is not the first time that this has happened this season

There was a period last season where we had the majority of the play and the opposition registered more shots on goal, ... but that was because they couldn't get close enough to score! so our goals were telling to say the least.
with Freeman back that is a plus will he go with Williams / Robinson to start instead of Pack?

Tuesday is our best chance to get 3 points in September, after that it will be lucky to get a draw from Reading and Ipswich ..... 9 pts 9 games no where near good enough to avoid disappointments later in the season
