Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists he will not be rushed into adding to his playing staff next month despite the loss of two of his most influential players.

Captain Steven Gerrard is out for up to six weeks with a hamstring problem while Daniel Sturridge's ankle injury is likely to keep the striker sidelined for a similar length of time.

And, with defender Jose Enrique not expected back in training until February following knee surgery, it was widely expected Rodgers would be forced to deal in the January transfer window.

However, despite enjoying success in the corresponding period last year, the Northern Irishman admits he is unlikely to get involved in the New Year.

"January can be a hard window," he told Sky Sports News. "While we were very successful in it last year - with Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge - we just won't be buying for the sake of it. We will wait and see what is out there."

On his side's rise to second place in the Premier League table, Rodgers admitted he was delighted with the commitment of his players who are buying into the principles he is keen to instill at Anfield.

"For us, the way we have been positive and aggressive in our attack has been excellent and our understanding of the model of how we want to work here is improving," he said.

"We have shown that we can win games while ensuring we play well."

Liverpoool manager Brendan Rodgers talks about Steven Gerrard's latest injury, the January transfer window and title chances.

Rodgers, speaking at a dinner to mark the 10th anniversary of the club's Disabled Supporters' Group where he was guest of honour, believes the backing they give the club is second to none in world football.

"It never ceases to amaze me. I travel the world as Liverpool manager and see passion and pride for this club.

"We have 650 disabled supporters coming to every home match with their voices as strong as anyone else's and it is fantastic," he added.

Is this a smoke screen to the potential clubs we want to buy off?

I mean obv we wont buy 'for the sake of it' but we desperately need reinforcements, especially in midfield <doh>

i said similar on the injury thread, as Brendan expects stevie back sooner than expected, perfect excuse to use for not getting players in now.

just hope, well not really either way to be honest, is this Brendan thinking we have enough ie Wenger my team is good enough type crap, or owners NOT giving him funds and he has to get the excuses out for them being skint or tight asses, or is it a case of clubs not taking the piss with transfer fees?

i hope this is a smoke screen, but the noises coming out are getting worrying if true.

I don't think there's any way we won't be buying in Jan. Not if we're serious about top 4. It would be suicidal.

BR's hardly gonna announce to the market that we're threadbare and in dire need for reinforcements. We will certainly be looking to make additions in January, certainly when we have a real chance of top 4 and the consequences of not getting it will almost certainly mean Suarez leaves and we have yet another year our of the competition

It's just chin music at worst and tactical pressure at best. If the players we want are available at the right price we'll be - you can bet on that (oh no! I mustn't mention odds or betting <laugh>)

Sound's ok, hopefully we will buy players who will continue to compete for the starting 11 even when we have no injuries

Prob just a sensible comment to keep prices down a bit - can't see us not trying to improve the squad in January. It could be the difference...

We have to buy in January. Maybe BR is learning to keep some of his thoughts to himself rather than his usual spill yer guts approach!

Dave not sure what the betting comment's about - I haven't been on for a while - but my guess is there's been a 'discussion' around it. What's interesting to me is how the odds are set. I believe the odds set are based on probability but not on the true probability of the teams winning, but rather what the general betting public perceive the true probability to be - which is a different thing altogether!

The m.o. of a good wum is to turn the focus of a thread onto them and what they want to talk about. Setting the scene up for them, doesn't work.

I've just come back today after couple weeks and scanned the thread page saw 'moderators please answer' thread, had look to see what that was about ...... "William Hill's title odds threat closed. Does it mean we cannot start another title odds? " - saw dave's comment here and guessed there'd been a title odds 'discussion' - that's it!
