With Rodgers employing a new 'style' of play and with new players being integrated into the team, the last thing we needed was for our backbone to go missing.
Reina,Gerrard and Suarez all had stinkers today and with Lucas out they need to sort themselves out.
Suarez..possibly his only really bad game for us. His touch , distribution were awful.
Gerrard.. Looked tired and leggy BUT he did keep going til the end.
Reina...looks totally lacking in confidence and to be honest has done for a couple of seasons now.if the invisible man (doni) was anywhere about I would play him next game.

Every team needs the spine of their team to be strong and today ours wasn't.

But it's not all doom and gloom just think it might be worth giving a few of the younger players a go.
Allen is just fantastic...did he misplace a pass today?
Sterling is exceeding all my expectations.
Sahin looked controlled and good passer but hasn't played much in last few months.
Shelvey looked good and was unlucky not to score.
Borini is being played out of position but does try.

I think given another few games, get Lucas back then we will be ok. Would like to see Assaidi play and hopefully after the break we will.

Let's not get too down. We knew it was going to be a tough start ESP with new manager etc but spurs and Newcastle haven't come, flying out the blocks either.

    Owen anyone?...ok.ok only asking.

Some (Tompkins is one of them) say it was a mistake to play Suarez & Gerrard in Europe midweek. Does everyone agree.

TBH I didn't think of it but if BR knew the squad would be this small come this match should he have rested them. Yes, he thought he'd have 2 more strikers but that wouldn't have effected Gerrard or Suarez playing today as they are first choice players.

Based on the size of the squad (19 players trained yesterday) do we risk speedy failure in the Europa to preserve Gerrard's & Suarez legs for the league?

Personally I don't think this is the real problem with either but do you lot?

May have been an idea to rest Gerrard but Suarez should be able to play two games
a week on most occasions without a problem.
Tough group in europe but the prem is our priority.Below average start, but this (not your)
    rampant negativity is irritating.

I think now we are in league situation and Assaidi and Yesin get up to speed we may well see a few more youngsters coming in.
As far as Gerrard and Suarez playing thurs I think if Rodgers had left them out and we had got beat he would have got a lot of stick. No win for him I think ( no pun intended)

Yeah, I think it's this string of off field cock ups that have ratcheted up the negativity, all for various reasons to different supporters.

I think we all looked at the opening fixtures, knowing that the team would be in some sort of flux again & said tough ask. If it had purely been just the poor results, we'd all have a match day, day after grumble and then get on with it.

It's this continuing confusion about what is the master plan, who has control, what comes first: the football or the business. These are the things we're irate about.

I actually think the football shows promise of becoming ok. Not mind blowing but not doom either. Just how most predicted for this year!

I still say we need a Roy Keane type leader/midfielder in our team. Gerrard was always a world class player and thats why he got the captaincy, he didn't get the captaincy because of his leadership skills, thats for sure.

Without doubt an almighty cock up letting carroll go without a replacement. It just beggars belief and I am sure Rodgers was not at fault for this. Love to know who was and what happens now?
But there are positives as previously stated.
Plus a bit of luck/ run of the ball wouldn't go amiss. For example. Shleveys shot today, keeper spills it Gerrard and Suarez are there waiting and it falls to the arsenal player . Utd hit post goes straight back to RVP...goal.

My biigest worry is that last season we had loads of games, where we just couldnt work out how we hadnt lost...Loads of chances, but nthing went in.

This year we are not creating anything as a team and i cant see how thats going to change at the moment.

Hope we can sort this out as im really worried for us at the moment

We are so wasteful its unreal, how many times do we get in behind on the wings and either chip one 20 foot over everyone's head or just tamely pass it into the defender?

Is BR actually going to swap borini and Suarez around? It seems painfully obvious to me.

Borini is not a winger, he impressed at Roma through the middle, Suarez impressed at Ajax from the wing.

As another poster said, it's logical to swap them around.

    Muther o Jaesus.

    3Games - 3 Games - 3 Games.

What on earth are you expecting. We're you all expecting it to be an improvement on Kenny last term <laugh> Goes to show, last season shooting boots were an issue at this stage not being played off the park by WBA failing to score from play against a wet fish City and get tanked by an average arsenal side. We're far worse off now than before. No taaame there's no taaame. Fkin fast food football club management

I argree with you BBf we need to scrap Tiki-Taki and bring back pass and move, (maybe the players will understand it better in english),
what worries me the most is BR seems to have destroyed the spirit we had, last season (with some notable some exceptions) Kennys team played
some outstanding football, not always getting the result we deserved, but everyone appeared to be pulling together no evidence of that
    so far this season.

We have gone from a team that need a few tweaks (ability to put the ball in the net) to one that has no creativity.

I was literally going to right the same point as this thread. totally agree.

i would also go as far to say that shelvey should start in gerrards place. with his energy wearing out the opposition and then bring on stevie near the end as he will have the experience to read the game quickly and know what to do with the ball (probably score)
