I am worried. Not about Saturday's result. One bad day at the office - move on. Why would a man spend HALF his wealth on a football club? Even if it's only £50m he is paying, that is still a quarter of his wealth. In business tersm does not make sense as QPR is not a Golden Goose. If the quote from The Guardian article is correct: "With the tag of world's richest club incongruously tied to Loftus Road, the team struggled as the impatient, impulsive Briatore saw off five managers in three years: Luigi De Canio, Iain Dowie, Paulo Sousa, Jim Magilton and Paul Hart. Running QPR in the Championship was expensive; the club made a £19m loss in 2009 and £14m last year, when it paid more in wages, £17m, than its turnover, £14m." then surely we are just sliding into a very dangerous financial situation. The ST prices, though steep to us, are a drop in the bucket if the wage bill has really doubled. The only way it makes sense is if there is a new stadium planned. Mittal gets the steel contract, the cost of it is written against tax and the increased numbers (assuming club well mananged by a Fernandes / Bhatia / Mittal triumvirate) of fans generate more revenue. Otherwise our problems are a lot deeper than a 4:0 drubbing by Bolton. Thoughts?
I head Fernadez quote somewhere (I think twitter) that this is a joint venture. Hence it will not be all his money and someone richer will be funding this. If its Mittal then great but it could easilly be someone else. Either way its got to be better then the current situation. Warnock needs money to spend to keep us up and this is the only way its gonna happen.
Morning Sam, agree can't go on as is otherwise down we go and likely by Christmas! Perish the thought. Actually vaguely excited about the forthcoming annoucement but then been excited before.......
Are we a big enough club to sustain a presence in the Premiership? We cannot continue to accumulate losses without Man City or Chelsea type backers.
Abu, that is my deep worry. We could end up with all the money men walking away from a QPR that cannot make them a profit and then it is goodbye QPR. Dreadful thought. At least Fernandes is a proper football fan, albeit of the wrong club!
Exactly right. We need a sugar daddy to stand any chance at this level until a bigger organization can be built (representing many years of solid investment). In the meantime there is only one way to make money out of owning a football club and Ecclestone is honing right in on it: buy a small club for nothing, invest just enough to get promotion to the EPL and then sell out for a huge profit to someone who wants to be involved with the glam. The only trouble is that there is no sign of anyone coming along who has the wherewithall or desire to invest the many millions needed to avoid an instant reversal of fortunes.
So......to survive this season we need a billionaire backer (Mittal only game in town, for me Bhatia = Mittal) to step up to the plate TODAY with minimum £12m tell Neil he can break the club wage cap ( only way we can get the class we need ) hope we can get the players in in the next 16 days, calm down the players already at the club on lower (but still obscene) wages ("its like this Adel...")Then let Bhatia figure out how you build a sustainable business with our fan base. How the hell do Wigan do it?
Also... having reviewed the Sky Sports report on Fernandes it is clear that the deal is still very much in the balance. If Ecclestone tries to squeeze any more out of the deal my feeling is that he and Mittal will finally walk away. That really would be the last straw regarding Ecclestone's shameless and shoddy misuse of the club. I have tried to be balanced about casting judgement on our owners (particularly as Mittal has also been far from whiter-than-white) but unless Ecclestone agrees to do a reasonable deal and walk away then he will have finally shafted everyone associated with the club including himself. He really is a slime-ball.
I've had a horrible thought that this joint venture could be Fernandes and Briatore.I know that Ecclestone wants to sell his shares but i wouldn't put it past Flavio to try and buy them and link up with this numpty.
