NA, Fonte and Holmes speak on Player. Nigel says usual uplifting stuff, but 3 interesting points were made. Barney has had more injections in ankle and is at least 2 matches away. Seaborne is due for hospital assessment on 21-22 October and if, given all clear, will be 'back in the building' for rehabilitation. Of all the Championship sides, we have used the fewest number of players...interesting.
Don't want to jinx it but I think that is testament to Nigel's fitness regime and dealing with injuries in the right way when they do happen. As we keep saying, Nigel is the complete package as a manager/coach/physio....
Another point: Fonte says Lambert is a pleasure to work with and good enough for the Premier League. Says he doesn't know how he didn't play in the higher leagues before. Would guess partly down to bad luck and partly due to him not having met Nigel.
Doesn't sound good about Barnard. If they've got to the "more injections" stage, sounds like one of those injuries that will not heal.
Interesting point made about barnard... I hope he gets back to full fitness and starts playing again with the court thing delt and done with!! I'm liking the quote Lee holmes made about, This club everyone feels part of it.. unlike other clubs he's been at! Tells me that every player is working very hard to keep there positions.
If it's that bad, I'd prefer that we just pull him out of training until January, and reevaluate then. He'd be useful now, but we're not in desperate need, and a further hit to that ankle could end his season. Might be better to have him healthy for the final three months rather than have a hobbled version now.
That's what I made of this, too. Certainly to me, looks like we need a new striker in January - as I've always said certainly not about a lack of talent, but a serious lack of depth.
I remember Lallana was having injections in his knee at the start of last season, and it took the knee to fully break down (in the Bristol Rovers away game) for him to have a chance to recover. Injections ain't the way forward.
Exactly my thoughts. OK, it's partly knowing the history of how players were treated to get them playing again, that is making us react negatively to this, and I suspect Nigel wouldn't compromise a player in that way. His track record of getting players fit and ready, long term, is excellent. He doesn't risk anybody [e.g. Connolly], and it maybe an injection to aid recovery, rather than one to simply take pain away, so that Barnard can train, which is what we fear.
The point Holmes made in his interview was that even those outside the team are made to feel part of it.
Exactly so, and it was good to see the lad get an award last year for his work in the community - and you could see from the reaction of the other players when he scored the other week that they all enjoyed the moment. Adkins and his staff are geniuses at treating people right, and the proof is in statements like this one of Lee Holmes. Many so called "great managers" completely forgot about long term injured players - Shanks was infamous for it.
Holmes truly deserved that award. Well doe to him! Was great to see him score again. If we had 7 subs I'm sure Holmes would be in there with Chaplow. Shame it's gone down! It shows just how much effort players are putting in
Lambert was feeling down when he left Liverpool U18s then he got depressed and thought he wasnt good enough for the prem and championship,so he never reached his potential.I think if he had someone around him helping him through his troubles then he could of been as good or if not better than Rooney.
Is that better on the field or off it? Some players do develop late. Tony Book at Man City in the 60's was an amazing example of that. What is certainly the case is that Liverpool's loss has eventually become our gain. Pardew deserves credit for spotting and developing his potential.
He played for some team in Liverpool I remember he said it in some interview on Skysports like 2 years ago.
