http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21639/reo-coker-deal-done--report Things never cease to amaze me! We have now got about 10 midfielders!
"Ipswich is a sleeping giant in the Championship. It’s a massive club with a great history and tradition. The facilities are first class and there is a terrific fanbase." Rare for a new signing to regurgitate those words...
so now we have: Hyam, N'Daw, Luongo, Drury, Wellens & Reo-Coker competing for 2 places. Unless we drop either Martin/Murphy/JET but even them none of the above 6 is a natural wide player. At a pinch, I suppose we could play 4-5-1 rather than 4-4-1-1 but I would love to know what is going through PJs mind regarding all these midfileders
I suppose we didn't know that we were going to get Reo Coker, so we signed Wellens just to try and get us out of this mess!! The problem I have is we as a club under the ME era go from one extreme to the other all the time, when things haven't worked out there's no middle ground or slow transition from one way to the next e.g: We spent loads of money on transfer fees and wages under Jim and Keane (and wages last season under PJ), that didn't work so we have a squad that is really in need of investment but we suddenly go for the being really really prudent after being the opposite of this previously We go for proven experience, short term signings, lots of loans this doesn't work so over the summer we are really patient only trying to sign players who are going to be here long term and not comprimising on players, not signing players for the sake of it, this doesn't work because it leaves us short of experience and numbers and so we get to the point where we do not have any choice but to sign frees and loan signings mainly short term signings!! I have confidence that Jewell will eventually build a good squad here, it might come too late but he seems to go down one route either short term or long term but goes too far one way when a mixture is needed. He also seems to buy or loan very good players, he knows a good player but he seems to sign a player more for the fact that they are a good player rather than complimenting what we already have or what we need. I appreciate that in his time since he's been here we've needed to strengthen in nearly every position and currently it's a case of working with what's available because we are outside of a transfer window!! I think if PJ would have taken over the squad Jim left, he would have done a good job with that but building a squad from scratch or one with so many holes in it not so much!!
PTC You can't build a team for the future when you base your team on short term loans! We now have 8 players here on loans FFS! The Reo-Coker deal is very strange and tells me that we are in a complete disarray and that the management haven't got a bloody clue. Reo-Coker is a FREE agent and yet we sign him for 3 months! We need stability not endless short term loans. He needs a club to showcase his talents and we are so desperate that we take him on. After 3 months if he does well he will be off no doubt about it! These clueless idiots have turned our once great football club into a transit club for other teams players who are coming back from injury and need fitness or for players who are using us to move onto bigger things! What a bloody shambled we have turned into. All short term thinking and no strategic plans about actually developing our own players for the longer term. Clegg and Jewell hold your heads in shame for turning us into a club that smacks of desperation. Better still, both of you please do the decent thing and **** off now. This is no way to run a football club and especially a club like ours! We now have 6 CM's Drury, Hyam, Luongo, N'Daw, Reo Coker & Wellens and only 2 of them are under contract. We have 3 CB's only 2 under contract! Why sign another CM when we desperately need a replacement of Cresswell at Left Back. What happens at Christmas when the loan signings go back to their respective clubs?
DJ Campbell, Nigel Reo Coker, Jimmy Bullard, Ivan Campo... We're becoming The Travelling Wilburys. Who's next? Peter Shilton? John Aldridge? Pele?!
Regardless of how many loans or midfielders we have Reo-Coker is a good signing that improves our team. I hope he manages a few good performances and we offer him a longer contract. It will probably end up with him playing well and going somewhere else in January though. Whilst some people like to moan just for the sake of it I can at least see that this is a good move for us. If he plays well we can offer him a longer contract and if not then we aren't stuck with him. He's not even a loan, we own him for three months, he's OUR player so get behind him. It's ridiculous how so many people moan that we haven't improved our squad and then a signing like Reo comes along and it's still not good enough. Welcome to Town Nigel.
Yes SD on the face of it we have brought in a good player but it doesn't disguise the fact that is born out of desperation! WHat kind of message does this send to players like Luke Hyam? There is no coherent plan behind this just one of panic. Perhaps if Jewell spent more time on the training pitch coaching his players rather than resorting to panic loans we would be all the better for it! This is not moaning for the sake of it but a deep concern that we are scratching around for short term fixes when the manager should have had a clear strategy in the summer. This is no way to run a football club and I'm frankly appalled that Jewell has been given more time in which to ruin this football club.
Trouble is our recent results means we need better players. If Reo is better than Hyam then sorry Luke, you're on the bench, no room for sentimentality. It is far from ideal the way things are being done JWM, I agree, but we do need better players and we now have a chance to look at Reo with minimum risk. I hate the way things are as much as you but I do see the positive in the signing. Catch you later, I'm off to the Miramar Airshow (the military base where Top Gun was filmed) to see the Blue Angels with my boy.
I'm all for signing players to improve the squad but the facts are that we now have 4 players on short term/loan deals that all play CM (Reo-Coker, N'Daw, Wellens & Luongo). They can't possibly all play in the same team so what's the point in signing all of them. I enjoy debating with those who still back PJ but I can't understand why we have this many players in the same postion all on short term/loan deals
" We now have 6 CM's Drury, Hyam, Luongo, N'Daw, Reo Coker & Wellens and only 2 of them are under contract. " Regarding this - I think N'daw is about to be sent back Drury is a good squad player, nothing more. The way I see it, Hyam / Reo Coker / Luongo + Wellens are the 4 Jewell is going to work with. " If Reo is better than Hyam then sorry Luke, you're on the bench, no room for sentimentality " This is one of the most hilarious things I've read in a long time!!! To be subjective, they are different types of players. Hyam more a holder, Reo Coker box to box. However, it's the IF in the sentence that has literally made me laugh so hard and spit my drink everywhere. Of COURSE Reo Coker will offer more, at this level, he is going to be sheer class. Always rated him, great little player. I don't think Hyam is ever going to fetch £8.5 million from Aston Villa, and just miss out on a World cup by being on stand by. I would love Reo Coker on a longer term deal, however, with the mess Jewell is in ( we cannot give him faith forever ) then it does have to be a short-term deal. I doubt he'll stay past the 3 months, however I'll back Reo Coker and I believe this is a cracking bit of business all around. I do want the development of our young players, and I do feel Hyam has a future / role to play at the club. Last roll of the dice here from Jewell, the board have backed him with 4 more players coming in. I'm happy to back him for the next 4 fixtures, where we require 7 points MINIMUM.
Decent player and the best midfielder we have on paper but why 3 month contract and why after all the loans. Part of me is happy but part is baffled.
On a bit of a side note, not sure if there's much in this but the EADT reporter Stuart Watson tweeted this last night "There's more going on with N'Daw than meets the eye. All I can say for now... #itfc" https://twitter.com/Stuart_Watson
I was talking to bloke on Saturday whose worked for ITFC for nearly twenty years and quite frankly everyone is amazed at the antics that are going on at the club, and are equally amazed that PJ is still there. In the Cardiff match when Loach made those two inexplicable errors to lose us the game, the person next to me said " I wonder how much he was paid to do that ". I didnt pay much attention at the time but on Saturday the ITFC man said exactly the same thing and its a subject of conversation at the Club.
Couple of questions for you guys. 1. How long has Reo Coker been a free agent? 2. If he has been a free agent for a while, why did he take so long to sign for you guys?
Buggered if I know jonny you just couldnt make it up, and if thats what staff at the club think then I think what we have here is a bloody dogs breakfast of unimaginable proportions. This is what you get when amateurs get involved with things they know absolutely nothing about, sickening isnt it.
