Tbf, its not about what you spend, its about who you spend it on. I'd rather see us sign a good player for £250K than spunk a million on another Puncheon.

I'd guess it's about £5m including wages per annum. That's only a guess though. That's £3m worth of fees and £40kpw worth of wages. I can't see us spending more than £2m in one go and more than £20kpw on wages for one player. If we did, it would have to be for someone seriously awsome.

As a Saints fan living in Bristol all I hear about form my City supporting mates is how good Maynard is. Ive seen him first hand aswell and he definately is one of the best strikers in the Championship, reports in the local paper here are that City have turned down 5 mil from Leicester for him so tbh I can't see us going in for him unless we a) sell Chamberlain or b) have a much bigger budget than I'm guessing.

Would be a fantastic signing if it does come off but I personally can't see it

According to the Bristol news it was a bid of between £2.5 to 3 million. So if that was rejected, I cant see him leaving for anything less than £3.5 million.

Maynard looks to be developing into a top striker, Bristol City seem to have an eye for a goal-poacher. Pitman looks tidy too.

In fact I wouldn't mind seeing either of those at Swansea.

Fancy Saints ,Boro and Ipswich to do well this coming season. Forest,Leeds,Bristol City and Reading to be in the mix as well.

There's no way we'll get Maynard, we simply won't pay the £4m being banded about for him. We don't have that sort of owner, unlike Leicester.

We might have the money, but I doubt Adkins or Cortese will be too quick to spend that much on one player, good as he is.

There is a lot to be said for that. It does seem Leicester are trying to buy their way into the Premier. I seem to remember another team doing that and look what happened to them.

So you want us to waste £4m on him? £4M!?!?!? Javier Hernandez cost Ferguson £6m.

I'm sure Nic won't be pushed into a corner, I don't want us blowing our whole budget on a striker when we don't need one as much as other positions. What we need is a CB and CM.

JDub, I agree with the two positions, but also need a striker. I haven't seen much of this lad, so don't know how good he really is. I don't think we'll be blowing any unnecessary dosh

Agree, but I'd like a 4th striker; Barney may go down and Guly may end up playing a different role as well as striker on occassions. IF Connolly could guarantee availability for 30 games, then I'd be happy; sadly I don't think he will.

I was going by the possibility that Barnard could still yet go down... Connolly, despite putting in an excellent shift isn't going to be a regular.

A CB and a RB are priority in my opinion for the time being <ok>

I'm sure that if we do sign Maynard he won't cost the entire budget. I don't think Nicola would be that stupid, and Nigel would never let him do that either.

Strikers not a priority right now, at least IMO.

RB being a priority? That's nuts, we have Butterfield, Richardson (both who've played in The Championship before) and young Stephens coming through, along with others.

CB's yes, we need a partner for Fonte and one for Schneiderlin in CM.

I agree about £4m beiing a helluva lot, but you can't compare it to Hernandez. In todays market that deal was bloody incredible, and a bit of an anomaly I think. I mean, Wolves just spent £5m on O'Hara, which shows just how good a deal United and Fergie made there.
