If the miracle happens and we stay up, Should we ship out loads of players and start again, I'd like this method but I look at what *uckle did when he replaced pretty much the whole team. It backfired big time and almost got them relegated. As much as I want to get rid of the deadwood I don't think getting rid of every player out of contract or out of form is a good idea, as we have to guarantee better players who can perform in this league

If we go down, Then yes id ship out loads and have a total rebuild. Gerken, Foster, M.wilson J.wilson Nyatanga Fontaine Carey Skuse Elliott Kilkenny ADOMAH (only for the money) Taylor and stead :( This would leave

    Heaton

    Moloney ..------........-----..... Cunningham

    ------........Kelly....-------........ Anderson

    ...........Baldock..........Davies

4 new players coming in along with another 3 as back up and rotation. We will need an instant return and carry on the momentum with confidence like Norwich, Southampton, Leicester etc. It sounds stupid but the pnly way I think we will ever get to the premier league is to get relegated from the championship. At the moment we're just a team that makes up the numbers in this league and will very soon be out of it!

You must add the youngsters in; Bryan, Burns, Reid, Ajala, Krans, Lewis Carey.
That's a total of thirteen; so where are the other nine or ten coming from.
IMO to sweep too many out in one go may be to our detriment. Also try to think who else SOD would want to keep out of the ones you want gone; Adomah? Kilkenny? Skuse? Stead? Fontaine? Taylor?
As I stated elsewhere, I feel Foster and Pearson may both opt to go back north of the border now McInnes is no longer with us.
By the way does anyone have a definitive list of those out of contract at the end of this season? That will at least tell us who is not going unless we get an unrefusable offer or SOD wants them gone.

The problem is Shiny that the players you want to keep : Heaton, Baldock, Cunningham, Davies, are exactly the players that other clubs will try and buy. And offer decent money for. The chances of us being able to keep them all will be slim. Remember we will be a club in the 1st Division and some of these lads would have aspirations to play at a higher level.

We will be the beggars, not the choosers.

Cunninghams young and tied down on a long contract, He will stay with us as with davies and baldock, Heaton on the other hand may not as he's out of contract, Would rather we sign him on a 2 year deal now!

If we do face the dreaded drop just wait and see the rats that will want to play elsewhere saying that they crave higher league football.

My message to them is you have had it for the last few years but for some unexplained reason you decided not to show up with commitment when your team needed it, so leave now!

My messeage only applies to those who have been at City over the last 3 years or more but I think some of the newcomers have some guilt attached to them as well.

As usual the overpaid non-performing members of the footballing profession should not be tolerated and until the clubs get their individual acts in order to stop this rot then teams like ours will not be considered as contenders. We can no longer afford to be in this division if we continue to pay over the top for the type of players that have shown up at the doors of Ashton Gate.

To finally answer your question Shiny we do need a total overhaul of the squad but more importantly we need a change in our emphasis from the top as to what they want Bristol City to be when they grow up. That will certainly mean that we will no longer pay over the top and the new type of players arriving in BS3 will have to show commitment for low wages and prove their worth before being offered higher salaries.

What the new look Bristol City will look like is anybody's guess because we cannot continue to lose money nilly willy without some idea of what we expect to achieve on the pitch. Regrettably I haven;t seen any evidence of that commitment since we reached the Championship and it is the only reason that we are in this mess.

The only thing left to determine is where we will ply our trade next season but I still think that wherever we are the changes need to be very radical. Over to you BCFC and good luck.

No wait and see where we are and also who is then available. Personally I don't think Heaton is any better than Gerken!

Thought i'd repost this, I put it in the Baldock and Davies thread

    Due to bad defence

    Blackburn 3 points dropped (h)
    Leeds 3 points dropped (h)
    Millwall 3 points dropped (h)
    Bolton 3 points dropped (a)
    Burnley 3 points dropped (h)
    Hull 1 point dropped (h)

that's 16 points gone due to bad defending, Add that too our points now and we would be 3 points off the play offs!

'that's 16 points gone due to bad defending'

If only football was played on paper.

Every fan in the football league could come up with a similar analysis.

Agreed but even the new god on the block, SO'D has signed a midfielder and a right back BUT STILL NO ONE FOR CENTRAL DEFENCE.

I'm beginning to think that all of us on Not606, OTIB and every other City fan in the world, know sod all about football. We all recognise the need for several new centre-backs but our managers obviously know better!

It's a lot more than that Shiny.

Charlton, Wolves, Millwall & Blackpool at home Barnsley and Forest away.

    Shed loads of rubbish defending!

Bad individual defending or a midfield not pressing/dropping?

Millwall the cross came from a player who was allowed to carry the ball unchallenged up the pitch from the halfway line, Bolton players came through midfield without being tracked leaving defenders 1:2, Wolves same again, Leicester ...

that's 16 points gone due to **** coaching and tactics. the changes made by O'driscoll makes the team more robust. big point is there is the TEAM not defence.

I think we've seen with Adomah and with Maynard that we are not necesarily a selling club.
Of course Adomah will leave, as he must as a very good player whose age dictates that he has maybe 4 or 5 years left to make as much cash as he can for the remaining 40% of his life and the wellfare of his family.
However, I think OD will try to keep the best players and will probably succeed with help from The Man.
A team with Baldock, Davies, Cunningham, Scuse, Heaton, Maloney, Kelly, Elliott and Taylor in it would not remain a Div 1 side for long (and I do mean up, not down)

Where the board really screwed up was by not giving Cisse an improved offer.
He was good enough to make our ****e defence look reasonable.

Imagine how strong we would have been with a good defence AND Cisse
