Let's face it, barring an amazing set of results in our run-in, we are down. But that's not a bad thing. The high earners who were here for Premier League glory will go, as will the manager, and we'll be left with a pretty damn decent Championship side, full of players with heart and spirit: Hill, Derry, Helguson, Campbell, Mackie (hopefully!), Buzsaky etc rather than no love for QPR (we know who they are). So, it's all down to the new manager that'll replace Hughes. Mick McCarthy? The return of Holloway? Curbs?
Will Faurlin stick around next year? Can't see him wanting to play in the championship again after what happened last time. The monumental effort required to sort out the contracts mess of the big earners will make our run-in seem winnable in comparison
The Prem should bring in a clause that states that any relegated team cannot transfer any of the named 25 squad out and that they have a 50% deduction in wages until the Championship season ends.
This. It will take a lot of re-structuring next season to sort out a squad for the NPC. We're not at all equipped for relegation.
This would cause massive unrest. Imagine Scott Parker and Demba Ba having to stay in the championship. Those two have arguably been two of the best performers in the prem this year
My thoughts on our fate have been included in about 90% of previous posts! My fear is that most of our parachute payments are going to go on wages for players who were not good enough to keep us up and have no desire to put the effort in to get us back. I would rather have a clear out of the over-the-hill players and get shot of the money men. It would be nice to do the same as Newcastle who hung on to most of their squad when relegated as they absolutely p*ssed their promotion campaign but I have serious doubts about the majority of the players we brought to the club during the two transfer windows. Rather, I'd like to see a clear out and bring in a manager with some fresh ideas and a bit of fire in the belly, not just the usual suspects who always get mentioned. I doubt Sparky will either a) want to hang around, or b) have what it takes to slog through a season to finish in the top 2.
Interesting the OP quotes Mick McCarthy as a possible manager. Latest rumour reckons he could end up back at Wolves...
If we go down, the manager I'd like to see come in is Lee Clark. Young, great ideas, and I'm not aware of there being any decent totty amongst the owners kids
Cant belive I am reading that...surely we have had enough of this type of behaviour lately? This is part of the reason why we are in the doo doo right now me thinks. We need to stop chopping and changing the manager/squad/first team.
He's never even managed a Football Team. Does a bit of TalkSport during the week alright but that's it. Did someone slip summat into your Porridge this morning?
Oh great, I've got a pair of comedians busting my chops. Hughton then. You knew what I meant... Friggin wise-guys! Oooops sorry...Wise- men!!!!!
Assuming that MH doesn't hang around, I'd be happy to see us swallow some pride and bring NW back (if he wanted to that is). We could then win promotion a second time hopefully, and attack the prem in the right way, with the right owners in place before the season starts.
