I wanted to guage the thoughts of the fans on what you think about Speke as a new location for our club? With all the red tape surrounding the new build on Stanley Park or the redevelopment of Anfield I think it would be more sense to move to Speke. Why Speke? Well there is plenty of land to redevelop, great transport links and a scope to move not only the stadium but also a full training acadamy, a centre of excellence if you will. Redeveloping or building on Stanley Park will always bring problems, there simply isnt the infastructure to support such a building as 70k capacity stadium, not even 60k with future expansion. In Speke this would not be a problem, it would also generate employment in an area that desperatly needs it. I dont want petty comeback remarks, if you are against the idea why? lets try and have a constructive debate about the location of our stadium. I believe that once the naming rights are sold, we wont be calling our home Anfield even if its built on Stanley Park. what are your thoughts?
I know it's a bit of a distance but Tarbock Green has huge amounts of green areas which could provide foundations for a big stadium & retail complex. It's less then 10 miles away from Anfield and is close to the M62 Win-Win imo Anywhere around 53.397686,-2.835245 looks good
It has to be called Anfield and it has to be in the contract that the name Anfield is used by the media. e.g. The ADIDAS STADIUM @ New Anfield. We cannot leave that part of our history behind.
Sorry luvgonzo, you cant contract the media to call a club or ground anything, freedom of press wouldnt allow it! I think the name Anfield will be incorporated into a new stadium, I expect you would see the following: Ground name xxxxxx sponsored for 10 years An end stand - The Kop, and built within the same traditions of the current Kop A side stand - Anfield stand, with corporate boxes built into it to draw more sponsorship, most likely the most visiible stand with the name Anfield on it
Disagree there if the contract with the company officially had the name Anfield in it then the media have to call it by it's correct name. On saying that I don't think there are specific laws for the freedom of the press in the UK.
Agreed with the other two stands sold for sponserhip. I'd imagine the naming rights will be huge and to be honest I hope they don't spend a penny of the naming rights on anything but building the stadium. FSG seem the sort of company that say little but produce huge, I'd imagine them being very coy about the stadium but once revealed we'll see something monumental. I'm hoping they investigate ways to ensure crowd noise is always at it's loudest. Will we be changing the sign as the players come out then so that it says "This is ????????" I really don't mind moving but cannot imagine our ground not being called Anfield or New Anfield.
You only have to look at the number of clubs in England who have moved their stadiums to other parts of their cities to see that LFC are not limited to staying in Anfield.
If this was the case, I don't think there is any point of a sponsor spending over £100m for the naming rights (from their perspective). The reason they are spending this amount is to associate itself with the club and to gain free advertising whenever there is an event held at the stadium.
There's some media thing where the media have to call it the Barclays Premier League. That could apply more to the broadcasters who want game footage than journalists.
reebok, emirates, jjb, KC are the stadium names I wouldn't know them by any other name. Although we might call it Anfield nobody else would!
Proving my point exactly, the name sticks, I will always think JJB It could be if Carlsberg made football stadiums, they would build a new and improved Anfield.
I find it amazing that fans are not bothered about losing the Anfield name. Looks like i'm in the minority.
I think we will have a KOP though but not Anfield. I just think of the sign at the top of the stairs THIS IS ANFIELD. There's a quote from Shanks about the sign. Goes something like... It's there to remind the opposition who they are playing against, and to remind our players who they play for. Are we going to lose the sign aswell I would want that to be in the pitch entrance at the new stadium and to still say the same thing.
Unfortunately luvgonzo football now is business rather then tradition, heritage ect. I have been to Anfield many times and is definately the best atmosphere in any ground in the world. Been in the Kop a fair few times and sent tingles down my spine. However to develop and maintain been a top club you need more money to compete with the market, that means a bigger ground and more sponsorship
Kind of wish an Arsenal fan would pop on ( RVF?) and give his thoughts. As Highbury was special to them and now have the gigantic Emirates. I don't think I have ever heard anyone call it the new highbury. I am a bit torn to be honest, I know what the new stadium will bring in the long term but at the same time, the heritage, lure, shankly gates, does it all get moved into the new stadium?
I'm with gonzo on this one. My head says we need the money but my heart can't let go of the name. Can we get a sponsor to change their name to The Anfield Company or something?
