One idea that I heard recently is the third card, for offences that lie between a Yellow and Red, the offender is sent off, but the manager can make up the numbers from the bench, this way the player is punished but the game is not ruined as a spectacle. I quite like it as a few games have been ruined recently by a sending off, this system would give the ref. an alternative, although I can envisage it would not be without its drawbacks.
I don’t know if I’d like that but a sin bin might be good so teams have power plays having a man over for 5 or 10 minuets. Keep the red cards for the really dirty stuff
