The funds were raised to allow the spend-It does not matter if it was prior to the spend or after the sale of players. The funds were raised to allow the biggest spend in BCFC history.
We are all frustrated because since LJ left, the promise was to progress.....but in reality we've been going backwards, even with a so say top notch manager.............it's definitely no better than what we had and the excuses imo are comical & mainly to fit the argument to those confident it would all change for the better...........guess what, they haven't..
Our current financial situation at BS3 rings a parallel with my own financial crisis about 15 years ago. I've built up a (very small) property portfolio over the years. As the property stock increases in value (longer term) it seemed like a safe thing to do. I borrowed as much as I could in order to invest in a market which for the most part was gathering capital year after year. A bit like Ashton did, playing the Player market before COVID. Then, in 2007, I hit the 'perfect storm'. 2 of my 3 buy-to-lets had been trashed by some scumbag tenants and they both needed work done to bring them back 'market-ready'. Without hesitation I commissioned a builder to undertake the renovations, as every month without a tenant was costing me money. At the same time I was having an extension built on my own home. As I had plenty of equity in ALL my properties, I felt confident that the renovation costs were covered. Wrong. The Credit Crunch hit (a bit Like COVID hit the Player market) and I found myself unable to remortgage ANY of my houses. I still owed the builders for their work but I couldn't raise a loan or any other capital. The ONLY option I had was to put everything onto Credit Card. I ended up with £60k YES - SIXTY THOUSAND POUNDS on various credit cards. Unsurprisingly this was an absolute nightmare and every penny that I earned was thrown at trying to pay the interest. In desperation I sold one of my houses - but in fact this only improved things slightly for 1 year, because during the Credit Crunch houses were not selling and property prices had dipped, so I had to drop the asking price in order to get a quick sale. I reduced the CC balance down to £40k as a result of the sale, but the following year the Inland Revenue demanded £12k for Capital Gains Tax. I was still unable to raise any capital so it had to go straight back on Credit Card again - so I lost a house and I was only £8k better off. With hindsight I shouldn't have sold - but I was desperate. My 2 youngest kids were also going through Uni at the same time and despite both MRS R&W and I being on decent wages our finances were in utter meltdown. All this reminds me of our current situation with FFP and paying Wells and Palmer, but not being able to offload them. We bumped along like this for about 4 years - looking back it's a miracle we survived. In 2012 I inherited some money, which wiped out the CC debt - and I've made sure that I've not had any since, but I'm watching the cost of living rises very closely - particularly the interest rates . A truly terrible time for me - but I'm not blaming LJ - or Warnock!!!
With the squad left after LJ and their mad contracts Lansdown came out with 'the promise to progress'. The silly sausage thought I've agreed £25k a week contracts so these players must be good. He doesn't know sh*t from pudding. We had 1 shot 5 years ago, Lansdown employed a novice and a snake. City now have a huge debt, even after recently releasing umpteen players of the 65 signed. Can't see City ever recovering, Lansdown had 1 shot 5 years ago and blew it. Tin hat off, see you all in May, going to Torremolinos with Mrs R in the morning.
Enjoy Torremolinos RP - love it. The Galloping Major is a bang average pub without a sea view but it claims to be the first British pub on the Costa Del Sol if you fancy a nostalgic pint. Doesn’t open during the day though. If you want evening entertainment (live music) then we tend to go to El Mojito. The Buddy Holly tribute is particularly good. For the best Sunday Carvery in the WORLD let alone Spain, I recommend The Carvery Company in Montemar. All walkable from Torremolinos. Enjoy We’ll be over there in July.
After spending many winters in the Canary Islands there is one thing I have learned about my ex-pat friends who also went there in droves. There is only one thing on their minds when they wake up and that is where will I get my first BEER? The price of BEER is discussed over every meal and major planning was needed to ensure a steady and reliable supply of BEER and around late afternoon the topic changed to how much BEER they had collectively drunk since the last discussion. To say the Brits are obsessed with BEER is the understatement of the century and not being a drinker myself I have never understood why BEER is a staple of life itself and it's remarkable that some of the wonderful friends I met during those years are still alive, even if their livers may not be functioning. Breakfast Lunch Dinner Late snack ZZZZZZZZ. Enjoy lads and I might see you next season so enjoy your summer and a few beers.
Re: Warnock, @Wiz - isn’t he your neighbour? You could ask him what he thinks of is over a pint in the local!!
He is based in Looe mate, my little bolt hole is on the other coast right down in Perranporth, a round trip of 90 miles on Cornish roads, busier than London in the summer, no thankyou.
Ha! I’ve no idea. I haven’t seen that stuff in years! It serves San Miguel, I know that much - but so does every bar, restaurant, pub and cafe in that area - and it’s rarely more than €2 a pint. This is the only photo I have of it and I haven’t captured the beer pumps.
I’m afraid that sounds a bit like me. Beer is great Mike - you should try it (actually don’t - you may get hooked!!)
Neil Warnock recalls the time he was punched and spat on during Bristol City pitch invasion The retired manager was shared his experience of the play-off final at Ashton Gate following the unsavoury scenes this week https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/neil-warnock-bristol-city-punched-7110210
SUNDERLAND GET PROMOTED ... I was thinking that is 3 opportunities LJ missed on [ built up a winning team and left or was asked to ] However the brush bathing city with the same same dust didnt happen as DH and the 2 coach's were split up and replaced by NP, WHO IN REALITY successfully failed, on paper we did beat last years points but with one of the most disasterous runs of results in BCFC history leaving us on 51 last season, made the 55 meaningless [ a continuation of pre NP form last 14 games , would have taken us to 60 points ........... , same players were available! ] season 22/23 needs to be a land mark season, we have always, mostly said, the first 10 /12 games is a mitigating factor. I always look at the wider picture so when fixtures come out I tend to have a formula on 3 that come down = 1 point at home none away ... whilst 3 that come up 3pts at home 1 away [first 12 games] ... so then rest of teams in league maintain average 1.81 pts [ home or away should put us around 75 -80 pts]
Well, looks like his retirement could be short-lived….. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/t...-veteran-over-managerial-vacancy-the-verdict/
