A thought. We have had a brilliant couple of seasons, and will obviously be going up again next weekend. Next year in the premier league, we will almost certainly lose more than we win. My thought was, all the moaing old women on this forum who appear damn near suicidal each time we have the audacity to lose a game....what is going to happen to them next year??

Put it another way, who do you suppose is going to be the first to slit their wrists?

I fully expect the positive police to impound them before they get the chance.

Has anyone had the thought, instead of being overly positive or overly negative, of simply being rational and logical? No? Thought not.

I fully expect next year to be an entertaining, exciting struggle; I believe that we have the quality, resources and management to survive in the Prem, but it will not be easy, and we'll be overmatched on a fairly regular basis (as is the case for even the most impressive newly-promoted surprise package). Does not matter...we'll have gotten there in far less time than anyone imagined, and I'm going to enjoy the ride.

I can't wait for the positive police to start work, can imagine Nigel now saying "Yes, we haven't won for sixteen games now, but the lads are in good spirits and we'll keep working hard. Conceding six again is not what we were wanting and we were unfortunate with our chance but we'll pick ourselves up, and go again. The good thing is we still have plenty of games to play and we want to win the league."
As for your question saint-jenny, I think we should do a poll or everyone making an obvious choice would probably upset them!

    OK, how about.....

    We are at home
Coventry are at the bottom of the table, we are at the top
Whenever we have had a disappointing result, we usually win the next game
    We are at home
    Coventry's best defender is out
    We are at home
Nigel has repeatedly shown he is a brilliant man manager and will bring the best out of the team for this one
Rickie Lambert, Billie Sharp and Adam Lallana (to name but three) will be playing for Saints, not Coventry
...oh, and we are at home

Rational and logical enough for you?

I can't see the point in getting negative. You win a football match, you lose a football match. And no promotional chickens counted either. Next season, if we win enough we may win the league. Yep funnily enough, that's how it happens. You might say, why are you writing something stupid like that TSS, when you know [if promoted] that we won't win the league..?

Well, I'm writing it so that, if we are in a position, far above expectation, just like this season, that if we fail to achieve what was unlikely in the first place, we don't read from anyone saying that this player is rubbish or that player is crap, or that bloody Adkins has suddenly never been any good or he's lost the dressing room [I hate that cliché]. Those people who have written similar things over the season, after the odd slip-up by the team, know who they are. This team has staggeringly over-achieved this season. The same team, the core of which was the same as in League One, will almost certainly be there, and they will need support like never before. There's disappointment and there's being downright negative. The best we can do is encourage, not undermine the confidence. It gets to the players, be in no doubt. As does our enthusiasm and passion, even if it is written on a forum.

This is a new one on me....moaning about the moaners before they have even moaned.

Of course there will be disappointment when we lose but I think most fans are realistic enough not to expect us to be challenging for titles.

Some people like to vent their frustrations on these forums and I can understand that. We're all different and we all have our own opinions. Just ignore what you don't like. Simples.

I will use Guly as an example. He's like marmite - some love him, some hate him....if you come on a forum and slate him then that's fair game. (it's a forum for debate). If your sat in the stands having a pop at him for missing a chance then your a pillock.

Please don't write Simples. That joke is long over. It's just annoying now. There's only one S in simple.

However, there are three S's in seasons. Which is the length of stay in the PL when Saints get there. Not the singular, season. ;)

I am not moaning at all.....my point was merely that if people are down in the dumps this season, how are they going to cope next year?

Indeed. There's positive, and then there's the irresponsible and the assumptive. The latter two are wrong.

    Oh dear.

I refer you to my earlier reply - and add another point. In order for West Ham to go above us, we have to lose and they have to win two games in a row. When, pray tell, did they last do that?

Not as annoying as a patronizing prig nitpicking on the tiniest details of people's posts.

Don't assume they can't. If it was cut and dried, we'd be promoted. we aren't yet. I have spent the last few weeks trying to keep some people positive. But don't take anything for granted. This is unpredictable Championship football and Saints still have to earn the right to be in the PL.

This post was always going to end bad. I suggest anyone who is about to post, just read what Joe said near the top, & lets meet in the middle.

Joe's post was very good. Often, being positive isn't looking at the shiny side of life, it is just merely being logical and rational, rather than harping on the negative, which does nobody any good.

But I agree, perhaps we should end it with Joe/

Fans are only happy/ suicidal based on their teams last game. Barcelona fans will be pretty grumpy today yet they could finish the season with 5 trophies.
