Just had a phone call from a pakistani claiming to work for Windows, he was very persistent and asked me to turn my lap-top on and then press and hold the the flag button down while pressing RR...he said that hackers are sending out fake microsoft info and he needed to stop them. So I turned on my lap top and made out I was doing what he asked, he then asked me to put in a code, which I never. anyway he started to get realy pissed off with me and I put the phone down...He rang me back and totally slagged me off with the most insultive swear words and sexual abuse I've everheard...any ideas what the F''K he was up to?
I don't think you really need to ask the question Eddie. But the fact he was asking you to perform a specific key stroke could mean a virus that could be activated. I'm sure if you drop a line to microsoft they would be keen to hear about it in case it's something they need to worry about.
He wanted to open your computer up so they could hack you, never ever do anything that initiated by a 3rd party. Eg someone or a website telling you that your comp in infected. Its not, well at least not until they get whatever crap they want onto your comp.
This is quite common, I've had loads of calls. They get you to give them online access to your PC, load a virus and then sell you software to remove it. I get so many calls from them that I now take the p**s out of them and waste their time. I've even had one who said that he had my wife with him, and he put on a womans voice, unbelievable. Dealing with them has now become a game.
Are you sure you haven't mistaken the asian accent for a Scouse one? Barton has been rather quiet lately.........
Get a refs whistle and speak quietly to them and hope they turn up the volume at their end and whistle as loud as you can. The ****ers wont call back then.
Stick your Jedward CD on and leave the receiver next to the stereo speaker for as long as it takes. If they call back simply repeat the above. Don't engage into any conversation unless you can **** them off first .
defo a scam ed...see below link http://darranboyd.wordpress.com/2011/05/21/windows-live-support-scam/ J
Just tell the tw*t that your computer isn't running Windows but either some obscure Linux Distro or Mac OS and put the phone down on them.
I ask them if they can hold for a second, then go do something else - make a cup of tea, paint the shed, go on vacation, etc. They are generally gone when I get back. If I'm feeling generous, I will play some music. If they DO call back, always ask then for the passcode you agreed with them before on their previous call, and refuse to talk to them if they don't recall the eight digit number that you didn't tell them on the first call. It's just like being in a call-centre, but without the mindless drudgery and the bosses monitoring what you do.
Funny I had the same sort of thing last week. Asian bird speaks to my Mrs first then she puts her on to me. Says my computer has been infected with a virus and they can get rid of it for me if I follow their instructions. After asking her 3 times what this would cost me (£40). I proceeded to talk a mixture of Spanish/German/Klingon and just pure bollox for 13mins (every so often I would say in English that there must be interference on the line and could she repeat herself) Funny enough she hung up . Didn't beat my record of 27mins with a bloke trying to sell me a new phone before he hung up. That surely must be a record !!
