Drogba's injury ( and age) underscores the fact that we desperately need a striker happy to come off the bench like Kalou, or a player like Schurlle who can step up to the plate and become a false 9. At 16, Solanke is not ready for it, Bamford will probably go on loan, and relying on Torres to score regularly is like relying on rain in the desert. We only have one striker of true potency - Costa - and the rest are either too old, too young, or too crap.
That sums it up very well. I also think we are in the same situation regarding Fabregas, if he gets injured. We seem very well covered in other positions with 2 good players for each position, especially with Azpi and Ivan able to move around the back 4. Its a shame Drogba got injured, it will be a setback to Joses planning. On the other hand better to wait for the right player than buy below par players as we did with Ba and Et'o. Hopefully Jose will find someone to step up from the squad in the meantime.
The thing is that we have many players, even including our back line who can score goals. Most recent news is that Drogs could be ready for action within a fortnight!
Moses could be groomed for the position, but I guess we're just waiting for a loan offer or permanent move for him. I think all our players over 22 on loan are really just in the shop window.
Just keep Bamford for a couple of more weeks and see how Drogs injury goes. Still 2 weeks till the window closes so no need to panic. Schurrle and Fabregas have both played false 9 before as well if needs must
He was terrible in front of goal for us, can't see that happening. Regarding the OP I agree and think that without a reliable back up you wont win the league, however I think Schuurle may be the one to step up.
Remy would be my vote, he has a buyout clause, so we can definitely get him if we want, unless he turns us down, but seeing as he will probably double his wages if he moves to us, that is unlikely.
Mourinho - Torres has not told me he wants to leave. Mourinho knows how to keep us guessing. I am afraid this might turn into just like last season.
i say falcao. He's not happy, we've got the money. Itd make us the best team in the league by a mile, GET IT DONE ROMAN!!!
Who we going to get then? Torres leaving for 2 years which means he wont ever have to play for us again and Bamford joining Boro for the season means we are going to need another striker. If we get another foreigner it means we'll have to sell one of our own though. In terms of Home Grown there isn't much available, Welbeck? I wonder if we'll try and get Falcao and send Cech on to Monaco?
Is it worth looking to get Welbeck permanently, looking to link him with Bamford in the future. Our problem is getting enough homegrowns and not being on the borderline. Bamford has gone to Boro for at least 3 months. So if Torres goes that leaves us with two first team strikers. Costa is injured, and Drogba just back(we think) from an injury. Musonda, Feruz and Brown, maybe as a support form one of the names. I'm guessing Oscar and Shurrle as starting striker back-ups. Jose likes a squad of 24. With Torres gone that would be 23 here, so it does look like there is a place for a bought in striker. Should it be another overseas one?
