North East England set for billions in investment and thousands of jobs as UK and US ink tech partnership. How will this affect the Sunderland area? https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...nds-of-jobs-as-uk-and-us-ink-tech-partnership
My lad is heading into uni this year and by the looks of it he needs to keep an eye on AI based technologies (he’s doing criminology) Great to see this investment
Hmm. Investment in NE is good. AI? Less so. As soon as OpenAI is attached it becomes FAR more precarious. Not sure I want NE future prosperity tied to Sam Altman’s continued ability to extract VC support while he circles the plug hole. Splashy headline but I’ll probably file it alongside freeports for now.
Same with mine. She's just started doing pharmaceutical science at uni and AI is used in drugs research.
Before I forget, I'll just mention this as a bookmark. An ex-employer, and still a close friend, has a huge pharmaceutical research company. He's Italian and currently in Lugano but moving to the UK soon. I'd be happy, in the future, to introduce you ... ... who knows eh?
The missus works in research (eyes) and closely with pharmaceutical reps. LOADS of money in those fields but it’s so damned complicated
I have think the regeneration of Sunderland is magnificent. surely people can’t be that stupid to put all this at risk next year for a **** like Farage who wouldn’t piss in working class people from Sunderland if they were on fire.
I've been VERY critical of the local labour council over the years but i'd say the last 4-5 years things have started to happen and I'd hate for Reform to come in. I think its a car crash waiting to happen but the knackers who would vote reform cant see past the end of their own ****ing noses. They wont see the bigger picture thats being played out in Durham right now. I think any progress made will come to a staggering halt if Reform win the next local elections and it will be disastrous for Sunderland.
Completely agree re: Farage. He is a user and a manipulator. Doesn't give a **** about the working man but is weaving an enticing web. C**t.
Never underestimate the capacity of stupid people or for people to shoot themselves in the foot because of a prejudice against someone or something. There's a few I know personally who'd vote Reform just to upset "lefties" with no clue about what Reform stand for. One I used to work with boasted that he voted Tory at one election just because a bloke he lived next to and didn't like was a Labour supporter.
Quite right mate. The council is finally transforming the city, and doing a great job. I think Labour will always have the majority on Sunderland City Council, so that doesn't worry me too much. Nationally, however, I look at a history of ****-ups from both of the major parties over the last 50 years and wonder who the **** I want to vote for at the next General Election. I feel like the guy in Brewsters Millions - Vote 'None of the above', as the 2 major parties are uninspiring and historically inept, the Libs are ****ing wet and although immigration is a concern to me, there is no way I want Farage anywhere near No.10.
