The ref was Freddie Barr our maths/science teacher at Wheeler St (ok Newington High) school down Hawthorn Ave, a great guy who used to bring me a programme from most of the matched he refed. And yes I was there John I'm been trying hard to scour the crowd to see if my mug is there but its hopeless, not sure if I have this particular programme, haven't looked at them for a while. But what a team Man City had in those days, Bell, Summerbee and Lee could be spoken of in the same degree as Best, Law and Charlton. Tony Book was a relatively old man when he joined Man City but became a stalwart, looking at their defence as a whole it was equal to the best of the day. And Hull City's team wasn't bad either although, sorry to say, I was never too impressed with Tom Wilson's defensive abilities.

The ref was Freddie Barr my maths/science teacher at the time at Wheeler St (ok Newington High) school down Hawthorn Ave, he was a great teacher and a good guy who used to bring me a programme from every match he refed. Looking at the Man City team which had Bell, Summerbee, Lee and was equal to the best of the day on par with saying Best, Law, Charlton, the Man City defence looked formidable as well which included a relative old timer who joined them late in his career Tony Book. He became a stalwart and captain for many a year, but Hull City's team was quite good even though I was never impressed by Tom Wilson's defensive abilities, and I don't remember if those players on the team sheet actually played in the game or just made a guest appearance, which often happened at testimonials. I remember one testimonial, can't remember who's, which consisted of a side made up of rugby league and cricket players and I think Jimmy Binks the Hull born Yorkshire/England wicket keeper was in goal, most odd.

I knew Freddie Barr was a local ref, but didn't know that he was a teacher. I would be also in there somewhere, as we always got behind the goal in the south stand. Man City's team was very good in those days, I had the pleasure in being on the same table at a sportsman dinner with Mike Summerbee, what a great guy he was, and was very entertaining.

Hull City once played a league game at White City in West London (now the site of Westfield shopping centre).

I used to go to Ainthorpe Youth Club and one of the blokes looking after all of us kids was another local league ref Frank Coultas, I got to know him quite well as I told him Freddie Barr was our teacher. He knew Freddie both personally and professionally but I never found out if one of them ran the line whilst the other was a ref in the same match.

Yes I was at that game.
Interesting to see people with rattles. Would be difficult to get one into a ground now.

White City Stadium was used in the 66 World Cup and occasionally by QPR.

Yes I went to the bastard, and the Jimmy Lodge around the same time.
I remember that cover and thinking it looked from a long time ago when I bought it. when it must have only been 3 or 4 years earlier.
