Beaten over five sets by world number 100, Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic. I wonder what the odds were on that?
The way Rosol served out that final game was incredible. Everyone the world over expected him to crumble under pressure and he holds it to love with 3 aces. World number 100?
Nah, he still faces the prospect of either Rosol, Federer or Djokovic. I really hope he makes the final, but looking at the field still there, it will be tough.
I'm gutted for two reasons, firstly and most importantly I missed a brilliant match by all accounts and secondly I would have prefered Nadal to have won the final (assuming Murray didn't make it that far) rather than Djokovic. That's it, no eye candy for me to watch now It could be good for Andy Murray though - you never know maybe the Czech just had a good (great) day, he is only ranked 100 after all. He could be the next up-and-coming star though.
Very sad that this match ended with an injury to the Frenchman, it was such a fine match up until the last set and then after the injury became apparent Federer went in for the kill. Under different circumstances is could have been a completely different outcome. Full marks to both players though for another gripping match!
Djokovic must be wandering if there will be anyone to stop him winning this year.......everyone else is struggling, I don't consider Murray will be Sundays opposition.
I don't think either Federer of Djokovic are outstanding in this tournament - yet. If ever Murray had a chance it's now but I refuse to expect him to win it as I always wind up dissapointed.
I saw the last set of it (will see the whole thing as I recorded on Sky+). From what I saw, Nadal wasn't playing poorly - the other guy was just playing out of his skin. Look folks, let's not get carried away just because Rafa lost. Yes, Andy Murray has a chance to get to the final but he's got Baghdatis, possible Raonic, Querrey or Cilic next, then Ferrer and perhaps Tsonga/Roddick. Remember what happened to Andy three years ago against Roddick? Roddick served him off the court. But, being positive, I think Andy has the weapons to get to the final. One of you said that it was a foregone conclusion and Djoko was a shoe-in for the title. Sorry I disagree. If Nadal had got past Rosol, he would have presumably been a prohibitive favourite to make the final. But, it's not happening. Folks, there is such a thing as a shock and it hapened yesterday. It might happen again. Another thing, why is some idiot posting about Rangers when this is a tennis thread?? Keep football out of this thread, please. Another thing that annoys me is someone saying that Murray can now win "by default". That comment is stupid. A Grand Slam is what it says on the tin, doesn't matter if Murray faces Fed or Nole or not if he gets to the final. Are you just going to narrow-mindedly devalue Murray's success if he does win the whole thing? A title is a title, and Murray would have deserved it, if he does go all the way. But, there's a long way to go. I am sick fed up of seeing trolls on these forums, or rather, WUMs. Many folk will probably get right behind him if he gets to the final. One thing's for sure, his outlook has improved and at least he's not always having a hissy fit on court. So please, get behind him and if he never wins a Slam, at least he's tried his best. It's just that there were two or three guys that were just that bit better than him. But, keep the faith and he'll win one sooner. He is that near to one.
