I keep seeing stories about Spurs and MOPO allegedly wanting to sign Jay Rodriguez and to be honest it's really beginning to grate on me. Firstly I really hate how the majority of 'internet' stories are just recycled out-of-date 'news' but also I frankly don't see the point in Spurs signing him in January anyway. I mean I know he had a cracking season last year and he was arguably our best player however he's still not recovered from what was a very serious injury. Not even kicked a ball in competitive action. So many players have struggled to recapture their top form after ACL injuries as they're so severe and can hamper a players post-inury career. There's so many examples of players who have struggled physically and mentally to come back from lesser injuries and yet there seems to be this expectance that Jay Rod will just jump straight back into the team in explosive form, or be sold to Spurs for £millions of profit. Personally I really hope the club take their time with Rodriguez and slide him back into the first-team setup slowly and carefully. I'm really glad that Pelle and now Shane Long are playing well as it will take some of the pressure off of Rodriguez when he finally does return.
Don't worry. Take a look at those postings and you will see they are mainly blogs and have been written by people who know no more than you or me about what is going on.
Spot on. It's my main hatred about Twitter. I literally only use Twitter to chat with fellow football fans and enter into some post-match banter with opposition fans but the amount of cr*p news stories on there is amazing. It's literally a cesspit for wannabe journos to make up nonsense.
What everyone forgets is poch doesn't sign the players at spurs. He did not get either of the players he actually wanted because spurs would not stump up the cash. Same could easily happen again
Indeed, and I believe Spurs have to sell before they can buy. When I hear that MoPo is in no fear for his position, then that is possibly true because he can make the case that he doesn't have the players he wants. Clearly, the current Spurs players don't buy into his pressing game philosophy. It's too much like hard work, so they need to adapt or be off-loaded. That is going to take time. I wouldn't mind betting they do zilch buying in the January window.
£20m is a lot for Spurs, Lamela is an anomaly signed in the knowledge crazy money was coming in for the sale of Bale. MP will have to get Spurs playing far far better, for Levy to part with that money... rather than part with Poch.
What I dont understand is how MP thought he would get those overpaid prima donnas to chase all over the pitch. Players like Adebayor are never going to buy into that.
I actually thought that Adebayor would be one of the only ones who would. Then I remembered that you have to drop him for six months before he's prepared to work hard.
I've not read any of the Twitter stuff as thankfully, I'm a dinosaur. There is no way Southamptom FC, with all its professionalism will ever rush any player back from injury. Our systems are too good for that. Most of what I have read has been about Jay's desire or not to be at Saints. I doubt he'll back in time to be fully fit to be even considered for a move anywhere in January and possibly not even up to 90 minutes football by the end of that month, anyway. My guess is that we will know at the end of the season and I would bet that Saints would want a new contract signed sometime between February and May to stop the vultures circling once the "one year left" button gets pressed. So, if Jay isn't sure about staying, we have a few months to show him he should, or if he is not thinking of leaving, I expect that contract signed very soon, or very soon after being fit again (at the longest).
Its a Spurs problem. Chelsea, Arsenal & Man U have always been pretty good at pressing hard..........but then those 3 are (normally) offering their prima Donnas guaranteed CL. Maybe thats why Man U have fallen away so badly??
I wouldn't get too upset. It is all part of the transfer game. Spurs want to sign JRod in January but are unsure of his availability or willingness to join Spurs or Saints reaction if they put in an offer so the tell their mates in the media that they want to sign JRod who print a story as if it is a done deal in an attempt to unsettle him. This quite often works with a team near the top trying to get a player who is with a team lower down the league like what happened in the summer. However, Spurs's problem is Saints are 2nd with a good team spirit and Spurs are 14th with no team spirit and a manager under pressure. Might work if Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and even Liverpool or Man Utd but Spurs obviously think they are a bigger team than they actually are. I would be surprised if JRod went to Spurs in January or in the Summer or at all to be honest if things stay as they are!!!!
