I was in the middle east for 2 years ,Israel , Egypt ,Jordan and Cyprus! I had a little bit then and a smattering of arabic ,but forgotten it all nowLanguages are not my strong suit).
all I knew were the basics how to get food and drink and accomm. plus asking directions ,that was it!
oh right lol...i did an ulpan, and learned a fair amount, but i don't use it..so i've forgotten so much of it...but then it was nearly 30 years ago so i guess i would have! lol
Funny thing travelling in the Middle East - when I worked for a hotel company that had hotels in Israel and Arab states our people had to have two passports as you could not travel into an Arab state if you had an Israeli stamp on your passport
