Repeating the same thing on several threads, still doesn't make it true, Shamrock Rovers are a professional club.

They were formed in 1901 and went full time in 1977.
    Seen this reply

The Shamrock Rovers player have jobs to go to and only play football part time and work workaday jobs the rest of the week when not training or playing at the weekend.

The Club are Pro but the players are part timers

  2. You can only beat who they put in front of you, Gaffe, as you found out against the worst team in the EPL, yesterday.

    How did that go?

Sorry mate, but last time I checked. In the Airtricity Prem League,

    Bohemians
    Derry City
    Dundalk
    Shamrock Rovers
    Shelbourne
    Sligo Rovers

...are all currently full time pro's. Granted the pay is rubbish, the average wage last year was in the 500-1000 euro a week bracket. A far cry from the boom years around 8-10 years ago when dross journeymen and a few crocked pro's from the English leagues in their late 30s were pulling up to 5000 a week.

    The rest of the league...

    Cork City
    Bray Wanderers
    UCD
    St Patrick's Athletic
    Drogheda Utd
    Limerick FC

...are part timers, with a few of their better players on FT contracts.

But the way things are financially, it's looking likely that a few more clubs will be rolling back to part time contracts. Football in Ireland is dying on it's arse, mostly because (a) any decent youngster that can play is either scouted by lower league English and Scottich clubs where theres better money, or is sold off to keep the books in the black, and (b) the 1000's of Irish fans, every week dropping 300-500 euro for a day out over at a prem match rather than support their local club for a fraction of that cost.

I see the Mousers had a whopping 26 shots with 15 on target yesterday against Championship side Reading, which again highlights the inconsistent clinical finishing ability of `best striker in the world` Sewerez and `top drawer forward` Slurridge.

Sturridge it appears has not changed much since donning his shell suit and trainers, he starts off well for a club and then quickly disappears into obscurity.

It was funny reading the scouse forum after Slurridge started with a gaol against Conference side Mansfield. It was as if Fowler and Rush had returned. They never learn.

He'd only be aiming for fourth, surely? As we all know finishing fourth is where it's at.

  12. How dare you!

This was always intended to be a serious thread for Spurs fans to discuss, in an objective and rational manner, the spectacular downfall of 'Pool, and to chart the increasing delusion of its supporters. Most Mousers that visit this thread respect those wishes, and have joined in the debate, perhaps even respecting the fact that many comments have held up a mirror to their delusion and helped them to come to terms with it, thereby enabling them to grow as individuals and help them to move on with their lives. But there is a small pocket of renegade Mousers who simply refuse to believe that they (and their team) have serious problems and, periodically, attempt to derail this thread's best intentions. They will not permit this educative thread to assist them with their personal and social development, they are content to remain emotionally stunted, and are prone to treat this thread as nothing more than a joke.

Of one thing, though, I can assure you: this thread is most definitely not a "wum" thread.

  15. Numeracy clearly not their strength, mate - along with understanding the terms 'sarcasm' and 'self-deprecating humour'......

  16. You couldn't make this up.

There is a discussion running on a thread currently on the Mouser board, in which it is being mooted that, as it's quite possible that 6th spot will be awarded with a Europa League place, 'Pool could get into Europe by pipping Everton to 6th.
    <doh>

They still haven't woken up and sniffed the coffee, have they?

So great is their mass delusion that they actually believe that they can catch Everton! And this, after they drew with the worst team in the EPL!

I rather fear that this thread still has its work cut out, to teach the Mousers some humility and acceptance.

Why is it we never hear a squeak from Peskie and his motley crew until they finally manage to get one point in front of us - while we have half our first team missing?

How very dare you, who's this Peskie character you speak of? I was just pointing out that delusion is a common trait in the vast majority of football fans.
