What has been your own most memorable moment, whether experiencing it first hand or seeing it on tv.There have been far too many fantastic moments down the years for me to list, and i fully expect to see many varying views,so just name your own personal favourite! As for my own it has to be the day we went to Old Trafford and won 4-1,with Dennis Bailey netting a hat-trick.I can't put into words how i felt that day,so i won't try, suffice to say i was partly in shock, but the total feeling of jubilation in witnessing something i never expected to see has rarely been surpassed.Nigh on 2 decades later i still couldn't tell you what occurred for the rest of that weekend,my mind was in another zone.A truly amazing day and a truly memorable moment!
Beating Liverpool 3-2 on aggregate in the Milk Cup semi up at Anfield in 1986 what a crazy day / night that was. Great game, embroiled in a couple of shall we say arguments with the locals, getting chased via taxi across the city, black eye and a torn up shirt. An adventure to say the least.
Standing on the terracing at Wembley, my uncle slipped over as we got a throw in, my dad was helping him up as Terry Fenwick thundered in a header to equalise the FA cup final and as the crowd went mad my dad said "what happened?"
i've got two, walking to wembley 67 with wba ashes on the back of a old pick up truck & michael robinson scoring from halfway line against chelski in the milk cup qtrs i think & was in halfway line with chelski fans & had a right chuckle to myself.
back in the 70's, QPR played Burnley and batthem 7-0 at Loftus Rd. The Burnely keeper was making his debut in a game he will never forget, and left the pitch in tears. One goal in particular where the move was started by Phil Parkes rolling ball out to fullback and ended up after a fantastic passing move in the Burnley goal without a Burnley player touching the ball. The phrase "Total football" comes to mind. If I also recall all the QPR players shook the keepers hand that day as he never stood a chance with any of the goals. also th 4-1 at Old Trafford. I was due up there for that game but couldn't get here and played snooker with my dad. I remember going to the bar after about 15 -20 minutes and asking the bar man what the score was and kicking myself for not going. I aso enjoyed Denis Law getting irritated the way Man u were outplayed that day and the commentator saying that QPR would have beaten anyone on that one performance. another game I look forward to is the one that guarantees us a second season in the premier league...
I was quite young at the '67 Final but it just seemed a huge place and the atmosphere was great. Sat on my dad's shoulders. Highbury Semi in '82 was good too In recent years being 3 nil up away at Sheffield United at half time and going for a beer, there was complete delight and amazement which is hard to replicate these days.
Tempted to say the ease with which I bought 2 tickets for Man United online just now - was really expecting a drawn out saga. However, Liverpool 1 - 3 QPR back in '91 will live long in the memory - great day out
Wembley 67 as a 12 year old with my old fella and his mates we were ok until we went in front was the 1st time i saw the old fella with tears in his eyes he is 82 now and still leapt about when we beat Chelsea.
When Gary Micklewhite scored the equalizer in the 90th minute against Newcastle in 1984, to make it 5-5. I wanted to leave at half-time having been 4-0 down. What a turnaround, what a game! We certainly went through all the football related emotions that afternoon. Whoever was at Loftus Road that day, will never ever forget it.
QPR 6 Chelsea 0 League cup win of course - 9 years old, Wembley, 2-0 down at half time, Roy of the Rovers eat your heart out... QPR 6 Chelsea 0 Beating Villa away to get promoted to the top tier for the first time - own goal with seconds remaining. Roy of the Rovers eat your heart out... QPR 6 Chelsea 0 FA Cup semi-final at Highbury in 1982 - Bob Hazell becomes QPRs first black hero QPR 6 Chelsea 0 League 1 play-off semi - what an atmosphere; a single goal turns Paul Furlong into a legend QPR 6 Chelsea 0 Oh, and lest we forget: QPR 1 Chelsea 0 in the modern era. Crap game, fantastic atmosphere, sheer jubilation and will live long in the memory.
I was at that game v Burnley Ninj, I was only 13. I remember standing behind the Rangers dugout and Steve Burke had to come off injured, every time we scored he turned around and gave me the thumbs-up. The Burnley keepers name was Billy O'Rourke, he tragically died of a brain heamorrhage in 2002 aged just 41.
To numerous to mention, especially as most have been covered already. But a different memory to add, I remember our last game on grass before we got the astroturf. They announced that you could take a piece of the pitch back with you after the final whistle. Most people were just digging in with their heals to get a tiny piece, but my dad ran back to the car and got a shovel and we went back and got enough to fill the boot of the car and took it back and laid it on a little roof terrace my dad had. Lasted quiet a few years too.
League cup final and fa cup final & replay are the memorable games for obvious reasons. However i went to Cologne for the uefa cup tie 2nd leg in 77 and that was a great experience. That was in the days before cheap air fares and overseas travel wasn't the norm, a convoy of coaches left LR for an overnight ferry crossing arriving in Cologne on morning of match, we had a few hours to see the city. Due to the British Forces having bases around that area we actually had good support that night and it was all so easy when Don Masson scored in the 1st minute to put us 4 up on aggregate, however the wheels well and truly came off, Cologne scored 4 and would have had a load more except Phil Parkes was brilliant saving us from a hiding, also the late Dave Clement was sent off, but somehow we survived and got through to play AEK and we know how that finished!
Hailsham Town v QPR 11 Also played in a charity match a few years later and Steve Sedley Gerry Ryan along with a few Brighton players QPR had Bradley Allen for them if I remember but a youth player scored 4
