We have all gone on about our need for a quality CB or two but could defensive midfield pairing of the above mentioned be an answer? If not in the long term but here and now. Davis is a player with a good engine and will no doubt be used a lot in midfield to try to break up attacks. Spiderman has the game to operate as a sweeper if given the task. He can tackle albeit somewhat dangerously at times but he also has good passing ability. from what I have seen he can also read the game

Davis got 90 min for NI...Adkins said it was good because he hadn't played 90 min since March. Has also been giving interviews on Player, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's seen as a future captain.

I agree with you there and I do believe he could be the signing(to date) of our season.

I'm lost here. Are you seriously suggesting we play Steve Davis or Morgan Schneiderlin at centre back or sweeper? Why would we do that? We have Hooiveld and Fonte to play tomorrow and Adkins has said he intends to sign two new centre backs in the next 13 days.

We will likely play something like this tomorrow...

    Code:
                   K.Davis

    Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox

                 Schneiderlin

           S. Davis Lallana

    Puncheon Rodriguez
    or Do Prado

                   Lambert

When he returns from injury where does Cork fit in? We have 3 excellent options at central midfield now, we've all gone on about a CB but there is still 13 days of the transfer window, in Nige and Nicola we trust!

#SaintsFC fans, there will be a story about Nigel Adkins' hunt for centre-backs online when you wake up tomorrow. Still wants two of 'em.

Oh come on. It isn't about 11 players but the squad. Players will rotate over 38 games. Surely you realise this?

Nowhere have I suggested that either could play as CB. I see Davis doing a Hammond/Chaplow role but at a higher standard. All I asked was whether either as a defensive minded midfielder could operate in such a way. It doesn't have to be a negative

Morgan and Davis are midfielders. Defensively, their job is to make the defenders' jobs easier, not being defenders or covering their arses so they can take a nap. I'm happy with that. To defend properly, all players need to know where they should be.

As a desperate measure perhaps but I would not be confident. We seem to rate Jack but my fear is that he will be caught out as a bit light weight.

I'd rather have Cork there than Schneiderlin or Davis, but by the time Cork's back we will have signed a cb or two anyway.

I was making a counter-argument to OP point about Morgan and Davis, I meant why not Cork to start when he returns. Hence my point about having 3 excellent options when only two players are needed.

Often we have raved about Chappers when on song and I see Davis as being a much better version. He looks bigger and stronger with less reckless tackles and I can see him driving us on whereas Morgan I see as a more defensive midfielder who might be able to cover runners at times. A sweeper does not need to be a centre back.

I can see these two becoming a regular starting partnership and for that I suppose Cork will now be cover.
