With the season building to a thrilling climax, the wise man knows not to get carried away with emotion, and instead to focus on what might be in store next season. With that in mind, the Life’s A Pitch panel presses a glass against boardroom doors around the country and reports back the findings. Each transfer rumour is marked out of 10, with 10 making it a sure thing and zero meaning it’s balderdash. They discuss the rumours concerning Nicolas Gaitan’s move to Manchester United, whether Liverpool will sign Royston Drenthe – currently on loan at Everton, and Sunderland’s interest in Steven Fletcher of Wolves.

First up, what about these rumours surrounding Benfica’s exciting Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan heading to sunny Manchester, with Fabio Da Silva and Federico Macheda going the other way? “That’s my story, so I’d like to give it a 10 out of 10, but at the moment it’s more like a nine,” chuckles Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph. “Man Utd are certainly talking to Benfica about what business they can do in the summer, and Benfica are desperate for a left back – they definitely want Fabio.”

Next, some very curious talk has been swirling around Merseyside suggesting that Everton’s Real Madrid loanee Royston Drenthe may dare to cross the divide to Liverpool. Utter nonsense, suggests Martin Lipton of the Daily Mirror. “He’s got a very good agent,” he splutters. “I don’t buy this for a second. If you could give minus points out of 10 I would. Not a prayer.”

Lastly, the panel wonders whether all this talk of Steven Fletcher jumping from the Wolves frying pan into the Sunderland fire has got legs. Duncan White of the Sunday Telegraph takes his cue: “I can definitely see Fletcher leaving if Wolves go down, which we’re expecting them to. For the first two thirds of the season he was incredibly impressive, so Premier League clubs of a certain calibre will be very interested in signing him. I’d say it’s a 10 out of 10 for him to leave, but Sunderland will face a lot of competition, so I’ll give it a 7.”

Ive said before that id love us to get Fletcher. Thinking of other suitors, Villa have been very short ipod up top this year and he wouldn't have to up sticks. Fulham lost Zamora and will lose pogrebnyak too at the end of the season. Add to the fact that Andy Johnson isn't getting any you.germ and ypu have to think Fulham will be in the market for a striker.

Wolves will try and dig their heels in over the price for their record signing so the key will be to get in very early before they cash in on the likes of Jarvis, Hennessey, O'Hara and Johnson and they arwnt as desperate to pay off that £18m ground extension in time to welcome Barnsley
