Former Italy footballer Giuseppe Signori and 15 other people have been arrested by Italian police for alleged match-fixing. The others held are said to include ex-Serie A players, current players from both Serie B and Serie C, club directors from lower leagues and betting shop employees. They are accused of organising the rigging of matches to fix bets. Eighteen matches are under investigation. They include this season's Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Lecce, and matches involving Siena and Atalanta, who both earned promotion to Serie A. How wide-spread do you think match fixing is? I don't know how they do it but it's getting more common. Could it be happening in the prem..
It worryingly could be happening in the prem., those games that should be banker home wins Chelsea / Arsenal versus some dross at the bottom, and the home team just doesn't turn up. You never really know. Don't know how it can be policed. Don't see how one player can throw a game though, there again I've wondered about some of our matches!
Serie A is done for, wasnt it afew yewars ago Juve got relegated and deducted 30 points aswell as stripped of 2 of their titles for Match Fixing. I think Fiorentina, Milan and 1 other team got docked points too
There have been question marks over their football leagues for the last 20 years, so this story does not surprise me in the least. Italy has been a corrupt country for decades. You've only got to look at their Prime Minister, who has been in and out of Italian courts for years. I feel for the honest footballers who ply their trade in Italy, because this story has the potential to snowball, implicating innocent players in the whole sorry mess. This smells as bad as FIFA and their dodgy leader.
