When we were in the draw for the league cup, someone asked Nicola who he wanted to meet. 'Newcastle would be interesting,' he replied with an enigmatic smile.

I'm not sure what you mean about smells bad. The article is just a little under researched and is making waves where there are none. It's a similar sort of thing that occasionally pops up with Dave Jones. How he is supposed to be incredibly bitter towards SFC, and how he was supposed to be NOT backed, and later turfed out, by the Club. Without going into details, I don't know what could have been done in that particular situation, for the good of all parties. In this situation, it's more innuendo, whispers and half-truths, and not something to be used as the basis of an article.

How's that northern bloke who replacecd Pardew at Southampton doing?

Pardew for whatever reason wasn't the right man to take us forward. He bought some really good players that he struggled to handle and won a trophy.

ANd then knackered the squad out with a very poor pre-season before Adkins cam ein to turn things round.

Makes me laugh about the 'on the back of a 4-0) comment. No mention of the 'pee poor' start we had prior to that 4-0 where the title favourites languished in the bottom 4!!!

People (especially Poyet) seem to forget that Adkins got promotion from virtually 3 quarters of a league campaign. Pardew had already shown in that first quarter that he wouldn't have done so :)

Why did Cortese sack him? I would bet money he had already been speaking to Newcastle and Cortese found out. Mike Ashley and Pards have been Casino buddies for a long long time before he came to Saints!!!

Anyone ask who the author supports?

This was a lazy article, not factual and completely ignorant of Nigel Adkins' ability.

This article was clearly written by someone more interested in black&white stripes than red&white. From that point of view its not a badly written piece. I doubt if there is one Saints fan who wishes Pardew was still at St Marys though!

Totally agree with everyone on this. The article was just lazy journalism. I also think it is very early to talk about how well Pardew has done at Newcastle. Good start but that doesn't make a season, look at Holloway and Blackpool last year.

The article makes no mention of the pre-season and the poor start to the season, something went badly wrong, we don't know what for sure but there was plenty of speculation, whatever it was, AP had to go, and NC knew what he wanted in his place and would not take no for answer, the rest is history. The article is only part of the story and puts things in a bad light, when in fact everything worked out for both sides. blue line it and move on.

Doesn't make me angry. I agree that Pards is a good manager. All that the writer has failed to mention is that he was replaced by a better one.

Clearly the guy who wrote that article is desperate for a job in the Newcastle FC PR department - that or he fancies the pants of Pardew!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL What a load of utter tripe!

A further point which I didn't think about yesterday, but has since come to mind, is that (from the outside at least) didn't Newcastle's sacking of Chris Hughton look very harsh also? Whilst Pardew took us to a top 10 finish and the JPT, Hughton got the promoted and comfortably won the Championship title in the process!! Moreover, they were safely tucked away in mid-table in the Premiership when he got sacked. How does the author wish to justify this, or even just distinguish from our situation with Pardew? And like Pardew now, Hughton is hardly doing a bad job right now.

How about Newcastle's loss is Birmingham gain?

In retrospect you have to say that Cortese got it absolutely right even if a lot of fans didn't think so at the time. Maybe the guy who wrote the piece fancies a job at the Daily Mail?
