After an impressive showing against everton, is it time to start montero in the league? Routledge with a contract extension, dyer with 4 goals, who can monk leave out? One hell of a selection headache for him.

Montero will start Saturday imo he's now settled in and Tuesday night played his first full game v PL opposition and terrorised them , we'll see a rotation of the wingers who all have different traits , not only a headache for Monk who he picks but also for the opposition .I'm not sure if jeff is comfortably playing on either flank like the other two though which may limit options during a game .

I think Monk will stick with Dyer and Routledge for the time being. Both are playing very well and they know how to manage a game in the PL.

I think Montero's time will come, but not just yet. No way can Monk leave Dyer or Routledge on the bench . The balance of the team is excellent so why change it? Monk will keep Montero in reserve, to come on as an impact sub on the hour mark and run their tired defenders ragged.

We are truly blessed with options atm. Bring it on!

After his performance against Everton, I don't see how Montero can not start on Saturday .... what else does he have to do. He tortured their right back, went past three players (I think) like a ghost to set up the goal, and showed well defensively, with our weakest link at the back behind him.

So, what can Monk do. The obvious is to sit out either Routledge or Dyer - Routledge is the obvious if you want to play Montero on the left side, but this could also be achieved moving Routledge to the right and sitting Dyer. But, that's too obvious.

The alternative is to deploy three wingers - I'm not sure if Montero could be comfortable doing this but I think it has great options - play Montero as a #10 behind Bony and continue with Dyer and Routledge on the wings. Montero's speed bursting through and carrying the ball up the middle of the park instead of the wings is going cause havoc for the other team and give Bony (I presume he will start) plenty of space to make his own runs. Then, Montero and Dyer / Routledge could swap positions from time to time just to make it more interesting.

Dyer and Routledge did this last season with Pablo, so they should be comfortable with the setup and it worked like magic against WBA at home.

So what do we then do with Ki, Shelvey and Sig. Start Ki and play one of the other two - maybe Sig over Shelvey.

Montero was a very good transfer forus I believe , id use him against teams that are pressing us. Could always bring Routledge to the middle to clear the way for Dyer and Montero to play they're normal positions ...problems like this I can live with .

Make the pitch triangular and start with a winger on each side - it's obvious.

With the amount of defending he did on Tuesday I thought we'd already converted him to left back :D

Given the faces he pulls after Taylor has passed back or infield maybe we'd be better off holding him back on starts until we get a proper left back.

Why not play him at left back - with his pace he would never be beaten on the outside and offensively there'd be nothing like him. Or, play Jazz behind him.

You really want to know? By the way I agree fully with campionijack, who has it spot on!.................<ok>

"He tortured their right back" - Yankee

I think I could have done that too at 49, he was that bad, think Everton will not be in a hurry to play him ever again!.............<ok>

montero is a great back up and will get his share of games but he is the number two and will only play if the first choice is injured, suspended or cup games.

On Tuesday, Montero played better than Dyer and Routledge put together.

There is no way we are going to put Monty into Siggy's position, that is a none starter Yankee, and I'm not even going to begin to explain the obvious on this. Secondly if Siggy got injured then I'd expect one of two things to happen, firstly Routledge would be played behind Bony as he has on in times past, with Monty and Dyer on the wings, but then even this is unlikely now we have Emnes who can play either on the wing or behind the Striker, then we have the other option of Ki playing further up field as he did at Sunderland with Britton and Shelvey behind, so many options for Monk this season with the depth we have, so all this is just speculation if Siggy remains fit! Monty will be a very effective sub in the League and starting in the cups until circumstances dictate!........<ok>

YJ your proposal would entirely disrupt the structure and patterns of plat that have excelled so far this season. It would be a massive risk at a time when the machine in working beautifully.

TBH it seems blatantly obvious. I don't know why you wanted it spelt out.

Not so sure that everything is so perfect in our midfield machine. Shelvey has been less than we'd like and too big a gap exists too often between Sig and Shelvey / Ki. Putting Montero or ANOther in place of Sig, whether its Gomis or Emnes for example would not be that disruptive - a one person change playing the same role.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get Montero off the bench and on the field since Dyer / Routledge also seem to be untouchable. To me they are not, but others seem to voice strong objections.
