It should be all systems go this upcoming weekend for Golden Horn to take his chance in the Irish Champion stakes. The jet stream has pushed up North and a good week is forecast with High pressure set to dominate for the week and it has been relatively dry the last week or so also. That's all for this evening's weather, we will have another update at 10, until then bye bye!
Old boy DK Weld had a very poor Galway by his usual high standards but one who certainly looked mighty impressive was his maiden winner Almela who literally won by half the straight. As a result the young lady has been pitched into a Listed race on only her second start. It's questionable what she beat that day but she couldn't have done it easier. The opposition tomorrow don't appear to be anything much better than Listed class themselves so I think she will prove a bit better than them. This is a Group horse. Confident bet. ALMELA 11/8 (B365) Galway 6.35
Having thought one the other day was a good thing, I'm a bit nervous about these well bred, easy winners stepped up in class. But I certainly wouldn't bet against her
No fear Ron. Weld runs another in the race, who I'd say is the biggest threat to her, Zhukova, whose a solid Listed class mare. I'd say there pretty sure my selection is superior otherwise she'd be running elsewhere.
Irish Champion next weekend, just had a glance at the forecast. Dry all week...rain on Sat and Sun! Could be another circus as to whether the big guns run!
Grounds good there, or was Friday anyway. It'll be good/firm by end of week, few mills of rain Saturday shouldn't do anything, unless it's more than that! Traditionally for the meeting the grounds usually no worse than good/yielding. I think in the last 10 years, it's been worse than that ONCE! I think people forget that on here!
Very little chance of rain according to my sources. As I stated with the first post. I was planning on heading up to Leaopardstown but I have a wedding to attend this Friday and will be a little worst for wear.
Windsor 2.50 Duck A L'roange 8-1 This horse is a very big price and I expect it to not be there by morning. It ran in a Newmarket maiden 3 weeks ago and so far only two horses have run since, the 2nd won an Ascot Maiden by a short head and the 5th won at Chelmsford by 3 1/2 lengths. I do accept the favourite has a similar profile but at 13/8 compared to 8-1 there is only one bet in this race.
With regard to the action this coming weekend, it is reported that Simple Verse is going to be supplemented into the St Leger at Doncaster. Obviously the money is no object to the Qatari owners of Ralph Beckett’s filly, currently trading at 16/1 for the race on Oddschecker. I am sure that John Gosden said last week that Golden Horn will run in the Irish Champion Stakes unless it comes up soft, so with the weather forecast and the strong possibility that it will be Good to Yielding or better, now might be the time to get on before Gleneagles is withdrawn if it is anything less than Good. I would like to see Legatissimo run in the Irish Champion Stakes rather than the Matron Stakes so that we can gauge one of the top three year old fillies against the top three year old colts.
An hour before off time and this horse is as low as 9-4, so the form is there, the money has come to encourage that they will be going for it and Jamie Spencer is booked - What could go wrong???
