Good piloting to save the plane from greater initial impact, improving safety standards of aircraft build. A degree of luck in that there was some edible/drinkable cargo, human endurance both of the initial impact and 5 days of survival on the ground. Miracles? Baloney! It's just a set of circumstances that may on face value seem improbable but are possible and in this instance happened through the mitigation of a number of variables (i.e. the pilots skill) to increase the probability of the passengers survival.

    Bah!

You have to believe in a higher being to believe in miracles. Anything extraordinary can then be attributed to this mythical being. Reality takes a back seat. Here in the Philippines a couple of years ago in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda, several who were saved said that the "Lord" had saved them, conveniently overlooking the fact that it would have been the same "Lord" who had engineered the typhoon that killed thousands.

I had a conversation with a Christian fundamentalist colleague of mine the other week (you know, the sort that believe the word of the Bible is to be taken literally, the world is 8000 years old, no such thing as dinosaurs and evolution is an evil man-made concept) and I put it to her that if this God of ours is so lovely and all seeing then why do such awful things happen to people all the time? She explained to me quite clearly and matter of factly that the reason so many bad things happen to people, despite the fact there is a just God who looks after each and every one of us, is all because of the devil and his wicked ways. It's a constant battle between good and evil with God trying to undo the bads things Satan gets up to, and unfortunately he doesn't manage to stop them all and this is why such horrors do sometime occur.

All became so clear when she put it like that, I can't believe I had't been able to work that out for myself, it has all been so obvious and has been staring me in the face for so long.

I won't make the same mistake again, hallelujah brother <ok>

Luckily God was on top in the playoff semi finals. Beelzebubs wicked hoofball was defeated and good football won the day!

    What a complete fruit cake!

    Bah!

The universe is infinitely large therefore an infinite number of things can happen, in this version of reality (assuming multiverse theory) they survived, however given our true understanding of the universe/multiverse/quantum mechanics etc calling it a miracle is probably fair too.

not one single shred of evidence to support any miracle claim.........ever. Nor any supernatural 'event'. Yet still people revert to 'God did it' when they can't explain something. Genuinely interested what anybody saw in that story that would suggest supernatural intervention.

The Supernatural is extremely scary as sometimes there can be no real explanation for extraordianary events. As a naive teenager some mates and I stupidly messed around with a Ouija board and got scared stiff. Everyone swore they never moved that glass and the looks on all of our faces certainly backed that up, ever since that day I have a complete open mind on the subject.

I'd have been thinking "what a bunch of muppets, can't believe they didn't see me flick that with my little finger" ;)

(whilst performing my very best 'shocked' face of course)

Supernatural stuff is something I remain open minded about too, hence I am agnostic as opposed to an atheist, though not for the same reason as KIO. To believe in ghosts,and/or spirits (good or bad) would mean to believe in God, which I don't....however I did have an experience that I have found no rational explanation for.

In a small village called Brampton (Cambs) I was walking through the church grounds on the way to the railway station in Huntingdon, something I did every Saturday morning on my way to see City playing wherever they were scheduled to play. It was about 8:30am as I got close to the far end of the cemetery when I heard a high pitched call for help coming from behind me. I turned round (as you do) to look at who was calling and saw a figure in black just standing there - with a black hood covering the head (all cliche stuff I know). I just stood there briefly, frozen to the spot, trying to work out what I was seeing and after perhaps 30 seconds decided to get back on my way to the train. No more noises were heard but I could not help looking back in case I saw the same figure, but it was gone. In 4 years of doing the same walk, every Saturday during the football season, this was the one and only time I had this experience.

Was it just a fertile imagination? Quite possibly but it appeared all too real at the time.

It has not made me believe that there are Ghosts, Spirits or Gods but that is the one experience that holds me back from being a fully fledged atheist today.

I used to be involved in a paranormal research group and having thrown myself into it I'd say there's "something" in it, not saying it's the dead haunting us but I've seen a LOT of weird **** that's not easily explainable.

I'm not one to shout ghost or paranormal but it's something I cannot easily explain away so I'm open minded on the subject.

Also have witnessed what "WE" call a miracle because no one can explain it, including the medical profession & I'm not going to question it because it's why my dad's still with us.

The universe is still supposed to be expanding
What is it expanding into ?

If time exists ( we base so much on time ) what happened before time began ?

    Easy answer there's a God !
Truth is we ain't got a clue !

Reality show me to my seat in the Jarrold I can cope with that ....... Just!!
