Finally some real progress. For reasons were all aware of, Evans is not likely to just walk away from the club, so the next best thing would be for him to retain ownership, provide funds and let a football man or someone who has some kind of clue run the club, from outside the Evans group. Clegg then Milne, both utterly clueless. COYB.
Sounds like Evans will fill that void himself (If there is one).. Though I must admit I've never really understood the remit that Milne had, other than he was responsible for things that happened of the pitch and not on it (as some have suggested). But what that actually entails I don't know. Lee O'Neil has had his promotion to cover 'football matters' which I would assume puts him as the conduit between Lambert and the Academy, Reserves, Sport Science, Evans and everything else so whether that makes things more effective only time will tell. For all his faults Milne did seem to always turn up to fan events and put himself in positions where others would have shied away from.. Not that it was for his (or our) benefit in the long run, but he was an approachable (if somewhat incompetent) figure within the club
We are a football club so there are no ‘non-football’ matters at the club. The sooner Evans gets his head around this the better. The PR manager is responsible for PR, the bookkeeper for making sure invoices are paid and Evans sanctions and negotiates contracts and transfers so I have no idea what Ian Milne has actually done. In the old Cobbold days the Club Secretary was the most important off-the-field person at the club.
I'm going to stick up for Milne a little - I've met him 2 / 3 times and he's been very approachable, and MORE HONEST than he should have been about a couple of things over time. At the Bristol City meets for the SW supporters club, he's come along, mingled for a long period of time - okay some people will say so what? Which I take - however he hasn't HAD to put himself in that position to have an indepth conversation with a town fan over a pint for a good five / ten minutes. He knows a lot more about football than people would believe - yes he supports Chelsea and yes appears your typical corporate etc etc.... but he's not as bad (in my opinion ) as the tag that he gets labelled with. That said, good luck to Milne, and hopefully we get someone better in
The guy's played a pivotal role at the Club during a time when we've seen so many aspects decline. The debacle over contract renewals, the mismanagement of McCarthy's departure and appointment of Hurst, falling condition of the stadium and failure to fully staff retail outlets on match days, over reliance on loanees, general disconnection of the Club from its fan base and community, not to mention overall poor quality of play, etc, etc, etc. Yet you're prepared to cut him some slack because he makes a good noiseYou must be an ad-man or politician's wet dream In your own words, you couldn't make it up!
I am yes - he did a lot of things with the fans that he didn't have to, he told us all sorts of information that was nice to hear, and he spoke incredibly well about football. Have you met him? Have you discussed football with him one to one over a pint?
No,happy to admit I've never met him but I experience first hand the parlous state our Club is in and pay a lot of money each year for the privilege! Ever heard the expression "actions speak louder than words"?
Well this explains a lot. My post on Facebook got very similar responses. Turns out Milne has spent the last six years getting pissed up with the fans when he should have been running the football club. Explains a lot.
I have yes, how about ' don't judge a book by it's cover ' - that would spring to mind also. A massive fan of Milne? No. Do I consider the amount of stick he gets warranted? Not for me. However of course we all have our own viewpoints and that's fair enough really.
You only have to look at the table Westy. He deserves every bit of stick. Theresa May is making a mess of Brexit but she’s a laugh down the pub. Just doesn’t wash does it?
Fair enough everyone's entitled to their views and I'll stick with mine on this! See who we get in next.
Don’t you think that role is just as a puppet of Evans and to do the public appearances, interviews, interaction that Evans won’t do - and feeding back to Evans who then actually makes the decisions? That’s how I see that role, rather than somebody actually calling many of the shots.
