I think most football fans can agree that referee's on a whole, are fairly useless in the modern day game. Cannot keep up, and their decisions quite often can result in relegation, or even cost teams vital points that could make them small fortunes with league wins. But things like yellow cards are such a simple part of the game you can get right, and tonight, in the first half, Mike Dean is making a complete hash of his basic job. I missed the Kolarov yellow card, so can't comment, however, there had only been 9 fouls in the game and 4 had been worthy of yellow cards??? Ivanovic, yes it was a silly attempt to get the ball, but it was his first foul, and deserved at most a warning. But Silva made such a meal of absolutely nothing, that it got Ivanovic put in the book. Well now Mike Dean has set a stupid and dangerous precedent for the rest of the game 30 minutes into one of the most anticipated matches of the season! With that one stupid, nonsensical booking he has forced himself to book every stupid little niggle of a challenge in the game. Which then takes out all the sting, all the fight, all the competition almost, as one half of the game of football is dead, the tackling half, as no one can make an inch mistake. So as I said, first we have Ivanovic, then we have Demichelis, and yes, Hazard, dropped to the floor, rolled like he was on fire, and it results in an even more farcical booking on a player, because he has to do it to even out the Ivanovic booking. Then Matic gets booked for even less of challenge then Demichelis'. He didn't show studs, didn't come in from behind, didn't stop a scoring opportunity, or interrupt a counter attack of any kind, he was in the oppositions half. If it isn't players unnecessarily play acting and being just an outright disgrace to human kind let alone football winding me up. Its prats like Mike Dean who is as the title of this post suggests, "beyond useless" and his position in the sport is completely redundant like so many other constantly cocking up officials.
Dean makes a goose of himself too often by his inconsistencies. First 2 City fouls were more yellows than the Brana one. Then he over compensates by waving the yellow like a morris dancers hanky. Both teams have been hard done by by the plonker, but that's situation normal with this Clown. He is a serious show pony and should be kept away from all big matches because of his need to show off. He will do something to stuff up this game, it's just a matter of time.
