It's a chance. I'm against it, personally. His football is boring and I'd rather we went for somebody with no previous ties to the club.

My chum is a keen Ipswich Town supporter and I don't think that he'd want to inflict McCarthy onto anyone. And given his antics down there, I tend to agree with him.

You need a decent manager, but, in all honesty, I hope that it's not him -- for your sake.

Same as Keane for me. You should never go back.

None of us knows yet what sort of a set up the new Manager will inherit and, even more importantly, what his remit and finances will be.

Mick is a solid, dependable Manger who knows the game inside out.
He is also, on occasions, too honest for his own good.
He got a bum deal last time he was here and I doubt that he would risk another one.

The fact that our current Manager was sacked as soon as the deal was agreed suggests that a new man has already been recruited.
At least I hope that's the case, otherwise we might have to enter the close Season without a Manager again.

If he comes he would have my backing, but personally I'm not one for going back for previous managers..

Good point and this is why I thought of Mick McCarthy. I thought that his sudden departure might have been due to discussions with a third party and that that third party would want him available if they were successful in securing the club. Mick was due to leave Ipswich anyway so nothing to lose?

Said i'd have him back but on further investigation, I think there could be better we could lure like Appleton or Cook. Plus I can't help getting this feeling that Kevin Philips is going to be a fantastic manager and we've arrived at the right level now to give him his first job. The romantic part of me is clamoring for Philips Like. Strange as I'm usually very logical, and there's no logical reason to put him ahead of other choices.

Don't recall any problems, on a personal level with lifelong Sunderland Fan O'Neill.
Obviously he didn't come into the Famous Son, Legend, class of our favourite Irishmen, Quinn and Hurley but he was still universally recognised as a nice guy.

McLean on the other hand has managed to upset the Fans at every Club he has been at.
Even long after his departure he continued to try (without much success) to poke fun at us.
As for his being a decent player you could change that to a fairly good player although I gather that his contribution to West Brom's Season has been mostly from The Bench.
But the terms 'decent' and 'McLean' are not a natural fit
